3500 Springs?

I'm looking at possibly upgrading my 5th wheel soon. However, the one I found is a little heavier. Is it possible to install 3500 springs and have the 3500 capacity?

you may be able to do it easier with a set of ride right or firestone bags.

I think from past posts that the only difference is that the 3500 has an extra "Overload" leaf in it. I may be wrong but pretty sure that was what has been posted prior. If that be the case wouldn't it be cheaper/easier to just purchase the extra leaf and install the same?

just the 2 springs will be cheap, but will the extra overload change the ride unloaded? air bags are bolt on, allow you to level side to side, do not affect the unloaded ride.

Well, I have the bags already. I was not aware that they increased my GVWR. I am just riding the line on the truck's GVWR now and the new trailer would have a 250# heavier pin weight. Where does the extra 900# of GVWR come from on the 3500's, the overloads?

What's the rating matter if the truck can carry the load? The law could care less what the sticker says. The law is going to check tire and axle ratings, not GVWR or GCVWR.

Oh, OK makes sense. I know the truck can carry the load. I was just making sure that if I do go over my GVWR, which is quite a bit less than my axle/tire rating, that my truck wouldn't break in half.

Here's the towing rating from Dodge:

With 3.73 Axle Ratio You Can Tow 12550 lbs
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating(GVWR)=9000
Payload=1693
Curb Weight=7307
Curb WeightFront/Rear=4324/2983
GAWR Front/Rear=5200/6010
Gross Combination Weight Rating(GCWR)=20000

Don't sweat it. If the truck handles it and you're comfortable behind the wheel while pulling it, well.....it's all good!

I know on the 03s I compared, the OLs were the only difference between the 2500 and 3500 SRW. I'd much rather have the bags than the OL springs - you don't have to let the back end sag before supporting the weight. I think I would observe the ratings of the 3500 SRW, just to be halfway kosher. Craig
