Here's one for you 03 Gurus,
What's the major difference between the 03 2500 and the 03 3500 SRW?
Helper springs?
Sway Bars?

What gives the 3500 more capacity?

Cab lights. Just kidding. Helper springs is the only thing I have been able to find. And I think the pistons are slightly bigger in the rear brake calipers.

What I know:

-3500 has different springs (softer springs with helpers...so it rides better empty but hauls more).
-I think the brakes might be different
-Those beautiful cab lights.

May be more...but I don't know.

The 3500 has "3500" emblems on the driver and passenger door.

The 2500 has "2500" emblems on the driver and passenger door.

I really don't know the difference. i just wanted a 3500 SRW since they were available.....

When I checked into it I was given this "answer". It's all about the springs. The difference is comparable to the 2nd Gen 2500 with the camper package (helper springs) and the 2500 w/o the package. I also was told the brakes are different or "better" on the 3500 SRW & DRW's. Just the B.S. I've been fed. I also looked at my buddie's '03 2500 and that is all I could see. Hope this helps.

The e-mailer states that the 3500 SRW has a 700lb greater gvw.
Could this be from only larger brakes?

The brakes themselves are not bigger. Only the caliper pistons are a slightly larger diameter to increase the braking force. The pads and rotors are the same as the 2500.

The SRW 3500s and 2500s have the same caliper part numbers. All the HD 2500s, 3500s and 3500 duallies have the same pad part numbers. so braking surface area is identical.

However, dualies have a different caliper part number that is associated with the "WLA" sales code. not sure what WLA is -- is that the dual rear wheel option?

this implies that the duallies might have a stronger caliper. they certainly have a differnet one.

dealer parts dept supplied the above information.

the GVWR difference between the 2500 and 3500 SRW is only due to the springs. So far as I know everything else in the truck is identical (for the HO CTD) except for the numberr "3" on the side and the orange clearance lights.

of course, GVWR is simply the number the DC uses to link the vehicle to its compliance with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety standards. nothing prevents DC from pulling a marketing stunt and declaring the 2500 to be a lower GVWR because they want you to buy the 3500.

This must depend on local and ins CO. Because I checked with my INS and they are the same.
