$4.49 in Mansfield, Ohio. I'm thinking of riding my wife's horse to work. Are there any mufflers out there that would make his farts sound like a 5.9L Cummins???

Looks like speed and agressive driving are our biggest enemies when it comes to mileage. I've tried avioding both and it does pay big dividends. It made me think about when I drove the German autobahn with a rented reisemobile (motorhome). I noticed that all, and I mean ALL, truck traffic stayed in the right lane and and never went over 55 MPH. You could hear those big deisels just purring. So why would we worry that we're gonna get run over if we drive sensibly, for our purposes, on our roads. I know I'm gonna do it.

I agree with Way Up North. On the tollroad (70mph) I'm driving 65 max! Sorry if I'm slowing you guys down but I have to save some money.

Anyone notice a difference with the summer ULSD fuel?? I haven't really noticed any increase, except when I slow down. Plus it's time for new filters.

I will not run over 60MPH unless I realy have to to pass someone going slower tha me (imagine that slower than 60MPH). At 60MPH coming from May Madness my hand calculated MPG was 21.8...not bad for a 9K+ lbs truck. I imagine if I go 55MPH I would be in the mid-high 22MPH. BTW the 76 gas station down the road from my house here in Sacramento is at $5.29. Only a year ago it was $2.85 86% more for fuel in a year. Outch!

Just got back from a long road trip out to AZ. About 1200 miles one way. Sorry, but I didn't measure my mileage on that trip because of different speed limits in several different states. Plus whenever I filled up, I couldn't ever get any pumps that I filled up at to pump real slow when I was trying to top all the way off to measure my mileage. The wife would get mad at me for trying to squeezee in those extra few gallons after the first click. Not a true measure because of the wife. Anyway, I do know my truck is capable of over 20 mpg at 70 mph. I have hand calc. that before on other trips less than a couple of weeks ago. One thing I did really notice was that even thougth I did the speed limit the whole way, I don't think I was passed by more than 1 or 2 truckers going there or back. Where I used to be able to get over 600 miles per tank on a long road trip at 70 mph, at 75 or 80 mph, I might be lucky to get over 500 miles per tank before I have to fuel up again. If prices jump up again and I have to go back to AZ, I think I will be the one who everyone is passing up on the road because I will be the old fart going slow to save on fuel. I'll give you all the one finger wave as you're all passing me if you think I'm going to slow.

Filled up today to beat tomorrows price increase. Overhead said 24.5 actual mileage 21.7. Smarty Jr. on 70HP. Quad on level 3. About 90% highway and about 70% of that was at 60. 30% was at 55. No quick starts, just slow and easy. No fuel additives. The previous tank was 18mpg. So for me, it's a matter of fine tuning my driving habits. I try to fillup before I hit 1/2 tank to keep the price under $100. Think I need to change that stratagy to 3/4 tank.

Gears

I feel pretty good about my mileage, 19 city, 24 highway. I have 3.73`s with the 48 RE. I will bet dollars to dognuts that those getting less than 18 combined are running 4.10`s in the *** end. If you don`t haul nuthin, go to 3.73`s or even 3.55`s for the best mileage.

plessm...
I have a 2wd dually and I drive at least twice a week from home to work 225 miles each way and I am getting 21+ mpg. I weigh in at 8K. That is strictly driving at 65-67 and all freeway, but in town I am still getting 18.5+.
Your low mileage just does not seem right. I grew up in the central valley and know those roads very well and there are no hills you had to climb, making it more curious...If you are still under warranty you may have them check it out.
I have 103,000 miles, still runs like a champ.

Last weekend I drove from Baltimore,Md to Buckcannon,Wv near elkins. 90% was all highway, however 75% was driving through mountains, or compared to you western boys you might call them hills. I got 688 miles on a tank of fuel for the second time in a row. I had the cruise set a 65mph and the SMARTY REVO set at SW#3,TM#2,TIMMING#4,RP#2,WASTEGATE OFF. Only difference between this run compared to the first run, was I added 2 cycle oil and went through more mountains.

Me too. High 16's on average empty. Of course it isn't the mpg that makes me mad, it is the ppg (price per gallon).
