So youre saying that Dodge is going to have the engines be derated down to 610 ft/lbs? Im not saying youre wrong, just wondering why?

Same reason they derate most vehicle engines. People don't take care of vehicles like they used to, so they have to idiot proof them. Sucks for people that actually take care of things.

The term derating implies something that isn't true. Sure the engine is probably capable of outputting 750, 900, or even 1300 ft/lbs of torque. Cummins will certify it at 750 for certain applications, but they only have to be concerned about the engine itself. There are dozens of criteria Dodge needs to analyze when putting it into their truck application though in deciding what output they want, not the least of which is what the drivetrain can safely handle and not kill them on warranty repairs.

If you think about it they have the same torque as what the current 5.9 has so they had to start at a base, right?

I too will confirm the new 68re, I am at ITP1 (68re build plant) and have been working on tooling for the new launch. This is going to be a good one from what I can see. Bigger shafts should be a plus. I have not had a chance to check the bolt patterns to see if it may bolt up to a 3rd gen, but I will check that soon.

* BUMP *

I posted this back in APRIL but since many seem like they still have no idea what's coming for 2007 changes, I thought I bump it up again.

So you are telling me that these 07's that are arriving on your dealer lots have this new 6 speed auto and hooked up to the 6.7 CTD... I don't think so.

6.7/6-speed auto will be on the lot by sometime in september for cab&chassis. The pick-ups we are getting are still 5.9/48re and will be until they come back from christmas/new years vacation and start building the new 6.7/6-speed auto.
