2005 Ignition Key - Chip???

I'm getting ready to have a couple spare keys made for my new (to me) 2005 3500. Do I need to get a special blank with a chip, or are the truck keys still "chip-less".

Thanks,

Ralph

If your key is black any blank will work,if it is grey bring big bucks.

What he said. Call the dealer first and get the details.

I'll take that as yours are gray? There are some locksmith shops that can make the keys somewhat cheaper than the dealer.

Also have been told to check E-Bay for blanks and then have your local shop cut then to save a few dollars. I have not tried that but there were a few posts about that a while back.

I bought two gray blanks off EBay for about $18 several months back. The dealer (parts department) cut them for me for free. If you have your two original keys, you can program the new ones yourself following the instructions in your truck's manual. I have since used the new keys for everyday use and put the originals away for spares/safe keeping. If you only have one original, you have to get the dealer to program any new ones.

If you have two originals, just buy one or two transponder keys for Dodge off Ebay. Get the new keys cut. Use the originals to program the truck to accept the new keys and you're done. It cost me $32 (Kokalit got a better deal) to get the keys and have them cut. I programmed them into my truck. The locksmith where I got them cut was a little annoyed that I programmed them in the parking lot before leaving. He was willing to program them for $20. It just takes a couple minutes.
