I'm kinda of perplexed over this, since I have my second 3rd gen ram, i have not experienced this with my two rams. I guess I am lucky on this, but I see that there is a TSB issued for this problem. It does look like a weird design as I can see how this can dig into the molding. Right now, mine still looks like it has not rubbed at all.

Try some pure silicone grease after it/they are replaced , I have not had mine replaced yet , but a little bit of bulb lube stopped it from tearing any more than it did !
