2004 Ram 2500 seized caliper problem

My truck seems to have a problem with seized calipers. I have replaced the right rear caliper twice and now the drivers side. Truck has 173K miles on it, but in the last 3 years three calipers. Fronts have been fine. This one today, left rear, got really hot and I had to replace the rotor, caliper and pads. I don't drive the truck much anymore, about 5k a year and it sits for two or three weeks at a time. Not sure if that's the problem or not. Anyone else having this problem? It there a brake control valve that may be stuck? Any ideas?

Crappy design, I've been dealing with this on the 05 for years. Tried all kinds of different slide lubes and combos, still fighting an uphill battle.

Part of your problem is you should have changed both calipers at the same time for the rear. Another thing to keep attention on as far as maintenance is changing your brake fluid every 30K miles. That old fluid will kill calipers. Make sure you grease the slides with good quality silicone grease made for this purpose.

How does changing both at the same time prevent the problem? It seems that that would just be replacing a part before its worn. I flush the fluid every time I change the brakes. The first set of brakes lasted 90k miles and no problems. Could it be the vacuum pump? Does it regulate the front and back separately? It there a check valve in the system?

Yes I have experienced the problem. The fault is the factory caliper pistons. They swell over time and bind. I bought aftermarket and the problem disappeared. It appears to have something to do with the coating on the piston. When it happens it kills the rotors.

Have you checked the rubber hoses, over a period of time they swell up from the inside. which causes the brakes to stay set and gradually bleed off causing the brakes to heat and wear. try setting the brakes using peddle, let off, then open bleeder, seeing if fluid squirts out, if so there is your problem, good luck;;;;

Hoses seem fine. I guess I will wait and see it these new parts last. $265 a wheel to replace all the parts.
