2004 Fuel Mileage

Anyone have a good handle on fuel mileage for a 2004, 600? I have a friend that has the new 600ftlbs in a 3500, with the 3.73 rear end and is getting 13-15mpg. My '99 gets 20+. I don't know what to tell him.

I think I'd tell him that mpg's will probably improve a bit as the truck gets used to him. (He and the computer have to become bud's.)

Next, I'd point out that the 600 will quite happily drink more than previous trucks... But it also will outperform them any day of the week.

Last, I'd tell your friend to treat that accelerator pedal like it was molten steel. The 600 moves so easily and quickly that it's really difficult to realize that the rears are almost at the boiling point.

What's hardest to accept is that these vehicles are really the first generation of fly-by-wire technology. When we climb into the drivers seat we're viewed as just another input device by the main CPU. It learns our habits and adjusts accordingly... For better or worse.

I'm not getting about 18 mpg (60/40 hwy.city), and on a recent trip to gatlinburg Tn, I got 20.4 average, even with all the hills and such!

I also started out at 14-15 mpg, Now I have 10,000 miles on it, and it is doing much better!

I hope mine picks up. get about 14 around town. have not really done any trips yet.

It is funny everyone says there's was like this as well but I am just the type of person that always thinks I am going to get the lemon. Hard to be patient.

hopfully it will pick up. have about 1500miles so far.

Mine was getting around 14 mpg mostly in town driving, since the rig turned over 3k mileage has gone up to 16-17 mpg in town and as high as 21mpg on the highway. Over all and as of late I've been averaging 18 mpg +/-, I'm pretty happy with these figures. The overhead did give me a reading of 23 mpg the other day while cruising at around 65 mph unloaded, but I'm having a hell of a time believing that.
