2003 Interior Grab Handle on A-Pillar

My grab handle trim on the drivers side A-Pillar broke today. After taking apart it's a wonder it even lasted this long. Its all plastic, no metal support at all. Has anyone else's broke and what did you do for a replacement? I'm sure I can go to the dealer and get a replacement, but is there an after market option that is more robust than the OEM part? I don't need anything to accommodate gauges. Thanks

I've always used the steering wheel for a handle in all of my 4x4's. I have gauges on the A pillar on my '03 and it works great.

Lots of guys have broken that handle off.

If you use the steering wheel you could wear out the bearing in the column. Then you have to replace it, not just the grab handle.

true, but i think aslong as you are not grabing and pulling the snot out of the wheel you should be ok. i just use it to steady my self, use my right foot to push my self up.

I've heard that before although I've never actually heard of one being replaced by anyone.......ever.

I also have step bars. I highly recommend some kind of step to help with getting in and out.

I called the dealer today, $27+tax for a new piece. I really thought it would be more. I ordered one and it should be in by Wednesday. Parts guy said that corresponding VIN number only had one color option. I'll make sure it matches the old one before I fork over the money. Thanks.

I broke mine, pulled the handle and the top bolt head went right through the plastic hole. I fixed it by removing the bolt and putting a washer on the bolt that fit the hole in the handle and bolted it back up. No problems since. Bruce

I have one in the basement I would give you for shipping. It's just collecting dust down there.

Thats what I did but also put a hose clamp around the plastic and washer to help keep the plastic from splitting anymore and to hold the washer in nice and tight. I broke my drivers side (Im about 190lb) and my cousin broke the pass side (hes maybe 120lb soaking wet). So far so good its been about 10 or so months and there holding strong.

Those handles are worthless when you are as big as the wife and I. We have broke both the ones off both sides and got them replaced. We don't use them anymore. They just as well not be on there as for usage. They are for looks for us.
