Exclamation 2003 dodge ram, Front Control Module

Hi guys, I have a 2003 Dodge Ram Dually with a Fummins, I am haveing a problem with the right hand trailer signal.

It works when it wants to when cold, no i first suspected a short or relay, I looked in the service manual for relay location and it turns out that there is a relay for the right as well as the left hand trailer stop & turn signals in the Intagrated power module. or (Front control module)

So i pop the cover to the FCM expecting to see the relays on top but upon further inspection i find the clicking to be coming from inside the FCM i even removed the FCM to check underneath. THERE INSIDE. If i tap the FCM with a screwdriver the signal light will work momentarely then stop.

Is there a way to service this relay or do i have to buy a new FCM.

No, you'll need a new ipm. Very dumb idea by dodge. A common problem though. Our shop sees these fail periodically with the trailer signals. If it were mine I would wire external relays up outside of the module. Wouldn't be hard but depends how good you are with electrical.

I TOTALLY agree with dku7. Use the right and left trailer turn signal outputs to drive relays for a separately fused circuit. Stupid design. I feel bad for charging people to do this on relatively new trucks, but Chrysler won't pay me to do this "upgrade".....just like they won't buy the part for you.

I ahve been able to reset them in the past, but ran across my "first" today. Reset the codes and flash updated it...... no trailer turns work . Hated to tell the owner a price to repair!

Would this be why I lost all my trailer lights except brake lights.

All my fuses and connections are good in the trailer/ plug

There are fuses in the PDC as well. If they are o.k......probably need a new FCM.

Correct. The FCM bolts to the side of the IPM.

You've replaced one part with the identicle one that failed. There have been no reported "upgrades" to the FCM or TIPM......as I stated above, if you absolutely do NOT want it to fail again, simply use the trailer circuit drivers out of the FCM (or TIPM on newer) to drive relays and run new larger gauge wires to your trailer plug.
