2 inch leveling kit installed today, but have a banging noise????

I got my 2 leveling kit installed today. It looks great but I notice that when I go over a big bump or speed bump I hear a banging noise from the front end. Ok, I have the Blue and Yellow Billstiens on my truck with the 315's. I called a couple of Off Road shops (Tuff Country) and asked if I needed longer front shocks. I was told that mine should work fine. A couple other threads also said they used stock shocks.

Is that noise the shocks being extended all the way out or is it the spacers banging against the coils, Or????? Doesn't sound good

Double check that the shock bolts are tightened down.

Especially the lower ones, they are the ones that don't get tightened down enough.

Did you have the bilsteins before? or were they added with the spacers?

I had the Billstiens on the truck before. They are the ones that would replace the stock ones. A couple of guys have put the leveling kit on with the factory shocks. 2 inches isn''t that much so I would think my shocks would work, but I'm not positive.

Will do, so you don't think my shocks are expanding all the way out?

I am having the same problem. I installed the spacers just before race season, and did not have any noise all summer. I noticed the noise with out the trailer hooked up. I tow with weight distribution bars and my thoughts are the front of the trruck is app. 1" lower when hooked to the trailer(I did the measuring). If some on has the part number for a shock that is 2" taller them the stock one I would be interested.

Called Bilstein and talked to one of their reps. He advised me that the shocks I'm using will only have about 1 inch of travel before they top out when using the leveling kit. I think that is the problem. I am going to order the 5100 series shocks that are made for the lift kit.....

Sounds good, I guess the stock shocks have more travel than the Bilstein's. List the part numbers if you can. I will be looking soon as well, Mike

I took off the Bilsteins today and put the stock ones back on. The stock shocks have about 2 more inches of travel than the Bilsteins.

what about the bump stop & panhard rod?

it looks like you only have ~2 inches of up travel before you hit the OEM bump stop, so intstalling the leveling kit gives you 2 more up inches of travel, BUT the one kit I saw came with 2 inch taller (lower?) bump stops, so you are at ground zero.

i got a lowered car, and it's a PITA over speed bumps. guess what? the CTD ain't much better if you are going fast, bottoms the front end right out.

did you think the front moved over 1 inch or so to the driver side, like someone posted?

is there a replacement PHR made for our trucks?
I saw a replacement bracket for the frame end in a magazine article for a 6 inch drop. is the offset noticable?
