2.99 diesel

Has anyone heard of the new deal dodge has going where you get fuel for 2.99 a gallon for 12,000 miles a year. What do yall think about trading a 07 5.9 for a 08 6.7 to get cheaper fuel? I have it figured with my current local prices I stand to save $1000 a year.

Guess it depends, if you could get a new '08 with the 2.99 diesel deal and still be able to work a deal for 10-12k off sticker price, it might be worth it. I'd have to sit down and do the math on that one though.

What mileage are the 6.7's getting ( Far less than a 5.9). IMHO your better off keeping that 5.9!

So, you'll save $3k. Based on the difference in MPG (btw 5.9 and 6.7), how many miles will it take you to drive to pay for $3k worth of fuel? 1 - 2 yrs? Then you end up paying more for fuel in the longrun. Basically, you pay now or later. I believe it depends on how long you will keep either truck. For example, if you sell / trade-in your truck every 5 yrs, then it maybe a wash. But if you keep the 5.9 longer than your break-even point, then you start coming out ahead. IMHO.

the amount of 2.99 fuel you get is not unlimited, and it also replaces thousands of $$$ that dodge is giving in rebates and incentives. it's no different than when they offer low financing rates instead of a big rebate-keep your truck.

they aren't offering the $2.99 on Diesels... there's a disclaimer at the end of the commercial.

I guess I'll need to see the comercial again but they do mention that it is for gas or diesel when they are talking about it.

And yes the $2.99 is for either gassers or diesels. I listened closely to the commercial and it mentions both.

it is for gas and diesel. here is a link to the program. as stated above, you it replaces rebate money. a lot of fine print to read. but with the ram 2500/3500 you get 2400 gallons spread over 3 years or 800 gallons a year. It's really no savings to begin with, let alone if your thinking of trading a truck in or selling your current one to "upgrade", after figuring depriciation.

The webite shows the calculated milage for 2500/3500 is 15 mpg, is that realistic for the 6.7? right now the 5.9 is getting +/- 19mpg. We only have 13,500 miles on it so I would expect that to get better as we go. My wife drives the megacab to hauls the kids around and the whole idea behind this was to get her into a SUV or car, but momma says she wants a truck.

I don't know that I would give up the 5.9 for the 6.7 just yet, even with the
fuel deal.

Also, it says a few models are excluded:

Copied form website:

Note: All SRT models, Sprinter, Viper, Crossfire, Wrangler, Wrangler Unlimited, Ram Chassis Cab, and Challenger models are ineligible to participate in this program.

Here's the deal:

http://www.dodge.com/en/refuel/inclu...int_rules.html

"*The gallon allotment calculation used to determine three years of gas at $2.99 per gallon is as follows: 12,000 miles driven per year multiplied by 3 years, divided by the vehicle's adjusted combined EPA City/Highway average miles per gallon (MPG) (average MPG calculated via average of all body models MPG within each nameplate). Please refer to attached matrix to view individual nameplate average MPG and program gallon allotment.
Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge are registered trademarks of Chrysler LLC . "

There's a chart in there that shows a 15 mpg calculation for the 3/4 and 1 ton pickups but it doesn't differentiate between Gassers and Diesel.

Their formula, 12k miles per year for three years divided by 15 mpg, yeilds a total program allotment of 2400 gallons over three years, or a max of 800 gallons per year.

Not really worth it if you ask me.
