I'm quickly approaching the 100,000 mile mark and will have some time off during the July 4th holiday to perform any preventative maintenance.

As I stand, I'm at 92k with my 2003 SO Cummins, 5-speed, 4x4. I've never had to do anything other than the normal oil/filter changes and a front & rear differential fluid change. The truck has been flawless. I have had no complaints and wouldn't have any problems buying another w/o considering GM or Ford.

Does anyone have any suggestions what I might want to look at having done to help prevent any future, untimely problems?

transaxle fluid is past due? Mine looked like mud at 20K

transaxle fluid? that's not the same fluid as in the differential?? i've never heard of changing the transaxle fluid....

No transaxle I think he meant differential. It'd be a good time to go to synthetic differential and transfer case fluids. Also check belts and hoses maybe a new thermostat and radiator cap. Maybe a valve lash adj check and overflow valve. Tranny fluid/filter change and bands adjusted. ...Whoops I see you have a manual tranny, do a fluid change on it.

I changed out my differential to Redline at around 50k. I think that's synthetic.
I'm making a list, so thanks for the additional suggestions Abbynormal!

check the blinker fluid level and change the air in your tires

Well if your gonna do that go ahead and put on a new distributor cap and rotor and plug wires

well you could check the axle wrap to make sure it is tight.

You may consider flushing the brake system. Start as the slave cylinder furthers away from the master cylinder and work your way forward.

maybe you should also put a new coil in it.

i guess there's just not a whole lot on these trucks you gotta do, huh? keeping the fluids in check and belts and hoses seem to be the most critical thing.

On a serious note,

Yeah pretty much keep fluid levels checked. I woudl adjust the transmission bands if it has not ever been done. Maybe have the ole girl detailed for her 100,000 mile b-day. She has worked hard fer yah..

Grease any thing on the front end that can be greased. pressure wash under there to, cause you know the blow by bottle has dripped at least a little, and that is usually when you will see a leak or something is when you crawl under and pressure wash. That is how I found a tranny leak on my old 01.
