I will throw in my $.02 if nothing else than to try and keep the balance between 6.7 owners who are having problems vs. 6.7 owners who are not. I have a little over 8000 miles on my '08 Ram 2500 and haven't had a single problem. Bone stock, i drove a little over 1300 miles home from the dealership i bought it from and averaged 16.7mpg hand calculated for that trip. I then put the 325/70R17 tires on the truck and started averaging 13.1mpg with a mix 40%city/60%highway bobtail. This is with the speedometer still being 3.8mph off at 70mph indicated so in actuality my calculations are probably ~.5mpg conservative. I then pulled my enclosed trailer (~3500lbs. empty) 1300 miles to KY and averaged 13.3mpg. This was with an 8" drop hitch that left the front of the trailer in the air a bit so it was catching the headwinds. I found a 10" drop hitch while in KY and used it for the trip back with the trailer weighing right at max capacity (10000lbs.) plus another 1500lbs. in the bed. I averaged the exact same, 13.3mpg for the trip home. Since i have been home (the last 2000 miles or so) from that trip, i am averaging a little over 15.0mpg bobtail with my mix 40%city/60%highway. As far as I can tell (i haven't installed a pyrometer yet, so i have no hard proof) i haven't gone into regeneration mode yet. I haven't seen any "catalyst full" messages or had any CEL's or anything. I have a 6-speed manual and 3.42 gears. The truck runs like a champ.

My opinion on these trucks (with also owning a 2001 5.9L with 327000 miles on it and having driven and been around my father's '05 5.9L and my uncles '06 5.9L) is that the 6.7L is a very capable platform if it is used as it is intended to be used, and that is for work. Put the truck through it's paces, work it, and it will get better and better every day. I honestly believe that, after I get my speedometer calibrated (I have the first REspeed module TS performance sold for the 6.7L, had them install it when I was in KY at the first of the year but it is having problems so TS Performance and I are working on figuring out how to get it working properly with this new platform) and get up to the 20000 mile mark or so, i should be seeing hopefully 16.5-17mpg bobtail with mix driving on this truck. Not bad for pulling 35x13 tires, if you ask me. And, more importantly, it should hopefully be getting >14mpg loaded. Only time will tell but, thus far, i am as happy as I could be that I went ahead and dove into the new platform rather than picking up a leftover 07 with the 5.9L that didn't have all the options i wanted. IMO, no matter which platform you get, if you work the truck it will love you for it and treat you well in return. After all, beneath all that emmissions crap, it still says Cummins...

I'd refinance your truck for 24 months at a better rate and pay it off. Hang on to it for an extra year and buy a new body style cash . Hit up a couple banks and your credit union if you have it. I think this also helps build your credit since you're essentially paying off the loan.

That's the sensible advice from a financial analyst. Talking money and interest rates gets me all happy . Gotta make a sacrifice sometimes and it isn't much of one.

Besides that I bought an 07 5.9 over a 6.7 (they were about the same price too when I bought) love the truck. The 6.7 made a little more power but not much. I think they "fixed" the "issues" on the 08 and 07.5 models.
