04 key does it have chip?
Long story short, locked my keys in the truck (only have 1 key and fob). I coat hangered my way in. Then went and had plain key made so I can at least get in if I do that again. My boy decided to see if the plain key would start truck, and it did. I have been driving with that key since Saturday. So does this mean my truck does not have the chip in the key, or will it leave me stranded somewhere if I use the plain key? Thanks in advance.

Are you driving with the old key on you? If so test by starting the truck with the new key but do not have the old key any where near the truck. Don't drive it, just let it idle, if chipped it should die within 15-30 seconds if I recall correctly.

Coded keys where optional when I bought my 04, since I planned on putting on a remote starter (basically bypassing those keys). I opted to not get "chipped keys"...
