03 Noisy vacuum pump

Took it to the dealer about a month ago, because it started running constantly. They found the leak, fixed it and problem solved.

Now two months later, every time it cycles (about 3 or 4 minutes / is that normal?) it has a fairly loud vibrating noise. It seems to be still working fine, but the noise really bugs me.

I am correct that it only controls the CC ?
Any suggestions?

Thanks

What you are describing is close to normal. You definetely have put some wear on the vaccum pump due to the leak. If it is running that long you may need to replace it. Yes it controls the cruise control dashpot.

It runs only for a few seconds, but does it every 3 to 4 minutes. It is loud but is still working fine.

I heard the Dorman 904-214 Vacuum Pump will work as a substitute (it is made for a Powerstroke) and can be had for about $65.00. Anybody ever try this?

I may just leave it unplugged till I go on a trip and need my CC.

Noop, 03-04.5 has them. The 05' and up are drive by wire so they don't need one.

I may still have a leak (possible), but it shouldn't affect the sound. Mine is loud now. Probably damaged from running so much.

The cheapest Dodge pump I have found was for $143.00.
That is why I was thinking of the Dorman.

The only vacuum pump the 05 ever had is the one that comes with the Jacobs e-brake

Sure they do, that is what operates the cruise control. You will have a dashpot that connects to the APPS unit. The vaccum supply is for the dashpot.

Supposedly only the Autos have them.

I think my leak is on the line going into the body. (where the T goes into the firewall)
Anyone know where that line goes to? Routing?

Thanks
