I couldn't believe it when the "cruise" light illuminated when the "on" button was pushed! This was just too easy..................

The scariest part were those yellow cables. Having that airbag right in my face as I was installing the switches.............

When I used to do car stereo installs, we would take a white plastic trash bag, tape it to the center of the steering wheel and set off a fire cracker while the installer working on that car wasn't looking........funny stuff!...

BTW...Dealer wants $399 to install cruise!!!!!! But in their defense, I really don't think they knew about this. In fact, I don't think they know much about anything!....

I would disconnect the batteries for ~1/2hr, just to be safe

Most dealers are only skilled / educated in repairs...And, no I would not defend them!

I would definately disconnect the batteries if I was going to be doing anything with the airbags. I disconnected them when I installed my new steering wheel and radio controls.

I looked for the wires for the radio controls when I had it apart......There are no extra wires in the steering wheel. I would think you would need a particular radio for this option.....A salvage yard would have what we need.....

It's a nice thought to add the buttons for audio, but I'm going to be running an aftermarket head unit anyway.

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=200109 This is a post by ratlratl(Chris) that gives the steps for adding steering wheel radio controls. I got the parts from him for $149 including a new leather wrapped steering wheel. You don't have to buy a new wheel but you have to cut openings in the back of your existing wheel. We discovered that my truck already had the wiring from the steering column to the instrument cluster so the only wire I need was from the controls to the steering column.

That's great, I've always said I need cruise for long trips. You wouldn't happen to have the dodge part number off the box, I'm going away next weekend, and would like to pick it up at my local dealer before then.

Sorry, I don't have the part number....But I know this fellow on Ebay has the best price I could find......But his price went up to $85 (I actually paid $69)

And Hounddog....Why didn't you tell us if you knew about this since 1990...

That looks great. Once I got the wire at the bottom of the column I could just hook it directly to the PAC adapter then plug that into the aftermarket head unit. I'll have to PM Chris when I get my truck.

Thanks!
