I used to do it the same as mega-engr.
However, it wont hurt to load the programming first, to make sure it loads properly, and then delete hardware. Would suck if the program wouldnt load, and you have a full deleted truck.

Hey Blake and Mega, are there any exhaust gaskets I need to get before installing the DPF delete pipe? I looked on auto shop web sites and none are listed and of course a gasket didn't come with my order.

Blake has a good point on the programming first, before the deletes, as we've seen people struggle with this area who may not be computer savy or just run into some technical issues.
I just reused the stock pipe gasket. And, I've had to take remove the delete pipe, put back to stock and then add the delete pipe back in again (thanks to the smog test BS). So far, so good.
I'm sure someone will direct you where to find or just go to the dealer...
