Smarty Jr - Stock Truck

Looking for feedback on running the Smarty Jr on a stock truck w/ emission components still intact. Anyone here using one, and how well does it play (more regens, EGR problems) w/ the added power?

Are there also any drive pressure issues w/ head gaskets w/ the emission stuff still intact versus deleting (I guess there is always a possibility w/ extra power w/ the VGT turbo though, eh..)?

the smarty jr is made for a stock truck, the me (middle east) software is for the deletes.
i have not had or heard of any issues, and the power ratings are based on a stock truck. (down to the air filter)
be careful with anything over the 60hp tune, and leave torque setting on stock or you will be buying a clutch sooner than expected.

Thanks for the feedback! I do know what the "ME" & "S" software difference, and I'm very familiar w/ the Smarty's since I had one on my '05 CTD... I Just wanting feedback on people here who are all stock w/ the "S" software. Most people are deleted w/ the Smarty/Jr, and at this time that's a no go for me.

I figured anything over the setting 2 (70hp) on the Junior, I will be on borrowed time w/ my clutch, maybe....

I have the Sr. and ran on the S at first for a while. I experienced some TV flutter and it did not take me long to just go and delete. Not sure why you are a no go, but take off the EGR crossover tube and look what it going back in - just a few bolts to do and easy. Work for the EPA or something?

Although mega-engr, since we are in the great state of Cali w/ the smog testing now on diesels. Do you revert back to stock or found a smog friendly shop when it's time to smog your truck? I have yet to see one up here in NorCal. That's my biggest set back, having to revert back every two years. Plus we have a couple LEO traffic division in my city that look/ask for missing diesel emission equipment now (obviously when you get pulled over for an unrelated violations, then the questions start to fly).

That's why it's a no go or not in the plans of yet (still getting the feel w/ this new diesel regulations here), but I figure atleast, I can get away w/ a Smarty JR or XRT (now has DPF on tunes).

Or maybe I just need to grow a pair!!!!!

Well... I did grow a pair. I don't exactly want to get a fine or anything, but the way I did the deletes, it is pretty stealth, and the tunes are pretty darn clean. No red flags. They are all easy to revert in a couple of hours work and it is well worth it for smog or warantee work. I did it at 5K miles on my truck and I am so glad, and it is so worth it. Clean air in the motor, better MPG, some more power. I did just the S version at first and it did not take long to just delete/disable with the ME.

I was thinking I might have to revert this year (temporarily), but just renewed my registration without needing any smog certs. We'll see next year. If so, then just another reason for some beers on the weekend.

Cool thing about the Smarty and XRT is you can run with or without the smog equipment .

After a couple months since this thread. I revised my truck needs, and doing the Cat/DPF delete from the down pipe & Smarty Jr.. Leaving the EGR/EGR Cooler on and let the Smarty Jr shut it off. If we did not have the bi-annual smog inspections here, it would all come off.

Just waiting for the goods from UPS..

Diesel;
Just do the Smarty delete on the EGR. Remove the Actuator and unplug. Takes all of about 20 minutes to do and keeps the oil cleaner at the very least. I waited until 10K miles before I did anything. Really happy since then.

Yes, you can do this while you are waiting and just have a passive CEL. Just make sure you plug the EGR connect back in (leave out the plunger) when you get the Smarty because that is the what is needed for the program to run and not derate power.

If I'm reading the Smarty instructions correctly, I just unplug the TV, cooler acuator plugs and take the plunger out and re-install the EGR motor, right? I was told it's a "whatever" w/ blocking of the crossover tube (either or, since the Smarty shuts the EGR command off, just a tiny bit gets by).

I know, I read on some threads that condensation/soot gets backed/built up w/ a crossover blocker plate, and it's actually better to keep it open if I'm not doing a complete delete under the hood.

Yes or No, on the EGR blocker plates w/ the Smarty(s)?

Required EGR / Throttle valve / EGR Cooler modifications :
There are two possible ways to delete the components in the engine bay.

1. Disconnect only the throttle valve connector and block of the EGR. In this case all other connectors and
components can remain in place.

2. Remove the EGR system entirely. Then all components, EXCEPT the EGR actuator motor, can be unplugged and
taken off.

The EGR is disabled and can be disconnected without generating codes. YET!!!!!!, unplugging the EGR will throw
the engine in a limp mode thus about 40Hp are lost, The actuator motor of the EGR valve should remain
connected in order to see the full power gain of these softwares!

I'd go ahead and block the EGR because the experts say to. That is what I did. I have not bothered to check for any condensation anywhere.
