Smarty JR ME installed w/deletes

After a 118 hour week, the rains finally came and I thought, what the heck, lets do the deletes (started at 7 pm last night). Finally got done at 2:30 (supper and beer were included in this time frame) this morning, took the truck for a ride and my first impression was wow, MADS really did their homework and everything I reviewed about Smarty was right. EVERYTHING just worked (stock programming installed). No codes, engine "seems" smoother, EB works, tranny shifted fine, everything worked. The ECM programming was initially a little scary due the key off/on combo during the reprogram. But it now smells like a diesel and NO MORE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT!!!! I actually thought for a moment last night that the 6.7 smiled at me. Would it be wrong to hug this motor?

I'm all for clean air and everything, but my truck is used for work in town and when I have work to do, I can't take a leisurely half hour drive on the highway in the middle of my day to clean things out (and burn a couple of extra gallons of fuel, how is that saving the environment?). If I did that, I would not stay in business.

Anyways, sorry for the long story, but wow, this could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

Took it for a good drive today and wow, what a difference. The engine is smoother, starts better, no check engine light and a really nice running engine now. Now, we just need to hook up the camper and go camping for a few days. The only downside that I see, is that it takes longer to warm up as no egr is getting pumped back into the motor. I'll take that and the better fuel economy as well.

I'm one happy Smarty owner!!!!

In general, I think I've picked up about 1 MPG to 1.5 MPG. Prior to Smarty, I was at about 9 MPG towing and now I hover around 10 to 10.5 MPG. This comes from the overhead and I know it is not accurate and hand calculated is always less, but it does provide a relative change.

Wow, I was thinking I was doing bad with towing at 75+mph and with 35's making 13ish.

Maybe I should reevaluate that.

You trying to make me feel bad or something . I was lucky to get 300 miles from a tank. Seriously, I got better MPG towing the same load with my 1/2 ton Suburban with a 5.3L shifting between 2nd and 3rd on grades (about 12 MPG there)...

How the heck are you doing that? You towing an Easter basket full of plastic eggs or something?

I am thoroughly pleased with the way the truck tows and stock power, but thorought disgusted with the poor MPG.

Maybe with just over 7K it is nowhere near broke in still?

May be on to something...

Average tow for me is a 26ft gooseneck with about 6 large atv's.

Heavier loads are a Kubota 125, oilfield pipe, hay etc. Havent towed any of that with the S67 yet.

Was makin 13.5 with a 16ft bumper pull, two 4 wheelers on it, and a bunch of other crap on the trailer and the in the bed last Sunday.

Interstate speeds of 80 and upwards at times...

My toyhauler bumper pull is 25' and is like a parachute I think with lots of drag. I tend to think it is not really the weight, so much as the aerodynamics. Of course it gets loaded up with a side-x-side, quads, bikes, and gear which is all pretty heavy too. I drive at about 70 to 75 MPH max with stock tires.

Seems like it is uphill both ways to/from with a headwind everytime...

Yes, towing is not so much the weight (getting the load moving, it is) but the size of the trailer you're pulling. Our trailer is rounded at the front and rear and tows REALLY well (we get 15 to 16 mpg hand calculated (100 km/h or 62 mph) if there is no strong wind) and 9.5 to 12 if its windy (that was before the deletes) and the stupid thing doing regenerations all the time.

I have such itchy pants right now to hook up the camper and go for a scoot, but I am so busy, its not even funny. Maybe in a month or so, gotta make hay while I can.
