Poor Mpgs gotta be better then this

I don't drive my 08 2500 on long trips often. Took it to Pennsylvania this weekend pulling a 16 foot enclosed trailer with 2 atvs in it. It's a taller enclosed straight front. Not a v nose. 54000 miles on the truck. All fluids in truck new including new fuel and air filters. Smarty set on 1 I got 10mpg. Smarty set to 9 i got 11. Driving 75mph and had cetane boost in fuel. Poor excuse of a truck in my opinion but usually stay close to home so really like the power vs the mpg. Anything I could do different to help things. 3.73 gears with auto trans. Thanks for any info!!

Any mods besides the smarty? Deletes? Deleting is a huge help. I have a 34ft double KZ Spree bumper pull camper that weighs in at 8600lbs loaded down for trips and I knock down a consistent 16mpg every trip. I also used to work offshore in the gulf of mexico and would drive from western Colorado to southeast Louisiana. I wouldn't make my first fuel stop until Amarillo Tx. 640 miles from Grand Junction Co to Amarillo.
Check to make sure you don't have a boost leak, make sure your tires are aired properly etc.
If you're not deleted, I highly recommend it. I deleted at 22000 miles and am at 75000 now and haven't had a single issue. Best truck I've ever owned.

My towing mpg has always sucked. Loaded bumper pull is about 11k. Don't get any better than 11 mpg or so driving In so cal at about 70 mph. Even unloaded my deleted mpg is not that good. I do drive 75+ unloaded and average about 17 mpg street and freeway.

Still only have about 20k miles so still breaking in lol.

forgive my ignorance, but what are 'deletes'? I just bought an 06 mega cab to replace my 01 and am learning the differences in them, the mileage change scares me

This pertains to the 07.5 6.7L engine equipped trucks and up that have the DPF filter on them. You still have the 5.9L engine which has better fuel mileage in the stock condition than the 6.7L stock engines will ever have.
