Engine Brake after smarty jr.

Engine Brake after smarty jr.
So after recently removing the dpf and disabling the egr, the engine brake on my truck has only worked periodically while on high idle (it works great while driving). The last time it worked the outside temperature was 9 degrees celcius. It worked at warm up and then again after a 1hr/70km drive, which changes my mind on engine tempurature having anything to do with it.
After e-mailing mads and explaining this to them the fellow was kind enough to point out the fact that the engine brake is not needed while idling,Now I have to say that the sound that the turbo makes is pretty cool so I hope not to loose this. I wonder if there is a mod that will engage the engine brake automatically when you press the button? Anyway, has anyone else had this happen and figured out how to get around this.

It sounds like it is working fine. If it comes on when the engine is cold, at idle, and works normally while driving - everything is fine. It is definitely tied to outside temps and engine coolant temps.
It sounds like you want to "force" it to slide fully closed, even if it doesn't need it to assist with warm up.
There is no way Smarty will make a custom tune to do that. They won't even do tunes to disable the tire pressure sensors, exhaust break on at start-up, etc.
Scott.

One thing that I didn't mention is that before the deletes it worked during high idle of 1100 to 1200 rpm (it didn't seem to matter what the temperature was), now it has only worked a couple of times. What confuses me is if the engine coolant temperature is the switch then why did the engine brake engage after it was hot (while idling), and if the outside temperature is the kicker then what is the min/max temp?
I know it isn't necessary, but it's operation has changed after the mods. I thought maybe the back pressure in the exhaust was less but I'm not sure that would have much to do with it either.

Maybe it was in regen mode when you still had the DPF. It was the computer just trying to keep exhaust temps up.
Mine never comes on when I am up to temperature, at idle or high idle, when it is even remotely warm out.
I am not sure what the outside temp range is for the exhaust brake to work at idle, maybe it says in the manual, I can't recall.
But after deletes, all the manual info kinda goes out the window.

Yup.. The outside air seems to be more of the control than intake air from what I can tell. My truck is outside facing east up against a west facing wall. During a warm day in the winter it won't kick in the EB to warm until it runs for a bit and I get moving. Then it does the normal warm up mode when you come to a stop and kicks in the EB. I wouldn't worry about it.
