Delete Problems

Delete Problems
A buddy of mine has a 07.5 6.7. It was having regen issues, and was running horrible. I ordered the EGR/DPF deletes. He is running the Smarty Jr. with the ME download. He is still complaing that the truck is lagging, sputtering etc... I thought maybe it could be the turbo that needed to be cleaned but it comes and goes. The turbo does not have the clean out port in it. He called the dealer and they told him he would have to make it stock before they touched it. The dealer said it may have something to do with the EGR cooler, should he delete it too? He has put Sea Foam in it to try and help but hasn't had much effect. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

if he is still under 100k miles. return it to stock, take it in, let them fix it then when he gets it back, then do all of the deletes. do the cooler too. have seen many of them crack inside and presurize the cooling system to the point of popping a head gasket.

Yeah that is what I suggested but he didn't want to put all the stock stuff back on. But also doing the cooler delete when repaired from dealer. He would have to have it towed to the dealer that is another reason he didn't want to return it to stock. It would barely pull itself down the road. I think he only has like 80k so that is a good option at this point.

^^^ Good advice there as usual. If there is warantee then just return it to stock (drive it / tow it in). Get it all straight and good and then go back to deleting and include the EGR Cooler at that time.

Actually, I really love thsee steps. I like seeing nothing there and have them out of harms way, and then having them retract down for when I need them. I've had these for some time now, they've worked flawlessly and got the lighting kits with them which is very cool and shines light on the step when it goes out.
If you put a little pressure on them and close the door, then will stay out and this is nice for washing the truck and other things with the doors closed.
I'm not too sure about turning them off though, but that would be pretty cool and needed depending on the situation like parking over/on a rock...
They were pretty easy to install myself as well. I highly recommend them.

then drive it straight home and let it cool while sipping on your preferred beverage and get rid of the goods and know it is going to be fine.
only thing he will be out money wise is a case of cold ones

AMP Steps
I too have them, and the bed step. They are great. Wife has MS and they are great for her to get into the truck. I use a short shafted screwdriver that I keep in her side of the door tray. So when she goes to get out I latch the door latch and the step retracks and she sides to the ground without the step in the way and then unlatch the latch and the step goes back down and then goes up when the door closes.

Yeah that sounds like that will be his best bet. We can put it all back on and he can take it to Dodge and let them fix it then when it comes back put everything back on and do the cooler delete as well. Then hopefully he will have no more issues. This is his first Bluetec truck and he has had it for probably a year now and from what he has told me it never has tried to regen till now. Which is when it started running like crap so we did the deletes and Smarty.
I am wondering if you couldn't wire in a toggle switch or something in line on the wiring harness for the steps and leave it on when you want them and switch it off when you don't. I will have to check into it.

as for the steps, it uses the door latch wires (the door ajar switch is integrated in the latch) to trigger the steps to activate. you can put them on a switch to break the signal so they won't open or vice-versa. easy to do.

Well I think I finally have him convinced to go ahead and take the deletes off and take it to the dealer let them fix it. Then upon completion put all the deletes back on and go ahead and delete the cooler.
I still have not deleted my cooler just for the fact I figured it was not an easy return to stock like all the others. I heard after deleting getting all the air out of the system is kind of a pain. I only have like 40k on my truck now and have been deleted and code free since 12k. So no problems with the cooler yet, but from what I am hearing now I am wondering if I should go ahead and do it?

its not that hard to make sure air is out of the system. install the goods, fill with coolant, unscrew the bleeder port on the top of the pipe near the t-stat while filling, let it bubble over for a few, tighten then top off again. let the truck sit for a few minutes gently squeezing the upper rad hose to purge air. start the truck and get to temp. let it cool for a bit, top off coolant again and make sure overflow bottle is at the correct level too. you will be fine. its just going back to stock, then headed straight to the dealer for repairs then straight back home for deletes. it will be ok. just don't go out and beat on it.

Hes better off, trust me. Lil Bro did the exact same thing with his, after having almost identical issues. They cleaned his turbo 5 times (same service time though) before it was clean enough and ran good enough to release it to him. It didnt take two days and we did full deletes on it. That thing flat out runs now....

Same here... I don't want to have to put that thing back too when I need to get checked. All I can say is thank goodness the truck runs and works so darn well with the Cali-Deletes only!
