Cold Air Intake

Looking for some advice..... On my last truck (2001 -- 5.9) I put on a K&N Air Intake. Now I have a 2007 w/6.7 with no mods at this time.

Which kit does everyone recommend: AFE, S&B, K&N, AIRAID???

ALL advice is welcome

Thanks for your input

I had an AFE Stg 2 and liked it. I dont care for oiled filters so K&N would be out of the question for me.

It whistled quite nice. Real audible without being annoying.

www.psmdiesel.com or Home Depot equivalent. Drop a NAPA 9946 in there and you're done.

I have an S&B with the oiled filter and I really like it. It works very well, was inexpensive, and gives a sweet sounding whistle.

I would recommend you do the EGR and DPF deletes though along with a programmer for the 6.7 first or at the same time.

Just adding a CAI to the stock vehicle with the emmission can potentially cause some issues.

Thanks I did not know that. I am planning on doing the deletes here pretty quick. I'm looking at the Black Max, 5" exhaust Turbo back, and full deletes. I found the Black Max, 5" exhaust, and the EGR delete for about $1721.00

Could you explain more about the potential issues? I was having problems with the stock air filter housing, and the dealer confirmed it's warped. I'm considering replacing it with a CAI.

Jeff, I've had several trucks (gassers and diesel) with every kind of filter on the market (paper & oil) over the years. Just get one that really sucks cold air, with the price you like or can afford and go with it. Many mentioned so far are good products.

I have used K&N in the past and most issues I've seen was the owner used to much oil when servicing them. That makes one heck of a mess downstream of the air box. I have the Banks CAI system, because I got it 'AT COST' ... and it seems to works fine.

The CAI units themselves are not the issue themselves. In one way or another, oiled or dry, they all work well for their intended purpose. I have just heard of issues with stock motors and programming (EGR, Regen, etc.). The cold air and such affects the programming and emmisions and can cause other complexities indirectly related to the emmisions equipment performing as designed, and not causing CEL's. Sorry this is vague, but this is what I have heard on a stock motor. I have a CAI with the Smarty and had no issues. The non-stock programming can take advantage of the CAI. Otherwise, I don't think there is any real gain performance with it Iother than nice sounding) and there are some general trade-offs relative to the performance of the emissions and economies on a stock motor.

I think I understand. Like I wrote before, I was having issues with the stock filter housing. It was missing a latch and is warped. If it continues to be a pain to replace the filter, I would hate to throw what I'm sure to be a fair amount of money at a new stock filter housing. I'd be ahead to go with the CAI, but at 54,000 miles I'm just not there yet as far as deletes are concerned if that is truly what I would need for trouble-free CAI.

I did the deletes at about 3K miles..., and have not had 1 single issue since. Prior, it was CEL's for carboned up emmisions parts... I would get myself a CAI, do the deletes (which you can easily put back if you needed to) and also not look back...

Considering your stock box is toast, I would go the CAI route and just spend good money on a quality system to last. I am just sticking the stock box route for now with a custom made snorkel (PSM like) to the road.
