zoom zvt
those that have seen the topic in the 1st, 2nd gen performance forum know I am waiting on the zvt. well the time is getting really close. they have the 3rd gens ready to go and the flywheels are as well. so that being said mine is coming , e-mail today confirmed . soon we will see if you can by an affordable clutch that will hold our torque. I have faith in the gentleman I have been dealing with ,he has told me of those out there that have them and what they tow sounds good. I said I like to do 3 gear launches and thats not a problem. sled pulling maybe though. if you guys would like to know more than I can give. I am sure he would be willing to pass along the info or answer your questions. for now I am waiting for the big brown truck to arrive . a few days later it should be here again with the turbo to move the air I need, to test the clutch as much as possible without twins.

I'm ready for a quiet clutch that is rated for 1400lb-ft!

You'll want the FE with a solid flywheel from SBC.
In fact, that may turn out to be better than the Zoom.
The Zoom ceramic is rated for 1400# of torque, and the FE is rated for somewhere around 1100. The difference is that the 1400# only applies at 2800rpm and above. It's about 1100# down around 1400rpm,, same as the FE.
I talked to a guy at Zoom yesterday that was more honest/forthcoming than the last one I talked to. I asked him to compare the driveabilily of the Zoom Ceramic to the SBC FE. While he personally has not driven the two, he did say that metal clutches are LESS grabby than ceramic clutches.
I asked how the ZVT was when backing a trailer, and his reply was that you have to drive it like a big-rig. Clutch must be released fully before applying throttle, otherwise it will chatter. He told me that backing up a heavy trailer will be unpleasant.
I also asked about the clutch's rotating mass. He said that the disc is a Spicer design, so it's heavier than stock. He was not able to tell me by how much.
I'm eagerly awaiting a report on the ceramic ZVT. I'm looking for something to replace my DD with. However, I'm not going to swap it out unless there's a compelling reason to.
I kind of wish I didn't go so far with my truck. The organic ZVT will hold 800# of torque, with a safety margin of 20%. So theoretically it will hold 960#. It will also drive exactly like the stock clutch. Sounds good to me.

1400 lbs is on th 5 spd trans trucks. closer to 1500 on the 6 spd, I don't know why. the big brown truck was here today. I am however working all weekend so I will try and do the install soon. the torsional damper is much stronger that the oe unit thats for sure. the grabby part is what I have been told as well, " it seems to be either on or off". good thing the stage 1 is close to the oe ford material on the facing. its killing me knowing the stuff is here and I am not in the shop doing it. weather looks nice enough to ride the bike while the truck is down so it might be in by monday . Reaper they just got the 6spd so the g56 could not be far out. I will ask and find out what I can for you.

zvt is in the truck. I did not have any fluid to top the tranny and tranfer case. I am going to get some tommorrow and I will do a drive and let you know what my first thoughts are of the drive. I know this I backed it out of the shop to clean up and the pedal pressure was less than I was expecting(good thing). I have an htt 66/14 coming (should be here tommorrow) after babying the two for a week or so I am calling Mark C. to set up a dyno time. I will keep this post updated as much as possible.

BRayls,
Well how does it hold? I'm sure you have it good and broken in by now. I'm looking for a good upgrade. My stocker holds OK until I hammer it on Level 5 in sixth gear they it starts to stink (literally).
