Back when I still had my original turbo and the flatbed on my truck I had 2 out of 4 fuel ups that netted 22.8 mpg running 60-63 mph.
Now with the vgt and stock bed and running just the Smarty Jr on 3 I have managed 21.9 mpg at 65 mph with little running around town. I have noticed that it gets the best when the vgt is open most of the way.
And yes, all of my numbers are hand calculated and usually done at the same fuel pump.

20mpg average hand calculated with a highest reading of 22mpg and that was babying it at 55mph.
95% highway, 55/60mph on the two-lanes, and 65/70 on the interstate. 99% of the time on cruise.

Truck is stock.

That's good mileage! Is that hwy/city or combined?

Don't worry, your truck is fine. With the truck in my sig I get 16-17combined hand calc'd; only up to 19mpg on pure hwy cruise right under 2k rpm for the entire tank.

Seriously! What do you people expect for a 7k lb truck??? Wow.. I am averaging 17 mpg right now, with 315's, and a bone stock truck... IMHO, that's an awesome amount of fuel mileage for such a heavy truck. If you think that's bad, drive a 3/4 ton gas powered truck, and see how much you hate life.

Well said.
7000 lb truck getting 17 mpg is awesome.
Figure a 500lb motorcycle getting 35 mpg. The truck is 15 times more efficient.

If you want fuel economy, buy a hybrid. If you NEED a truck, you pay the price.

I see where a lot of people like the smarty box, but I dont want to install guages in the truck.

I got a buddy telling me to keep the box I have, put a intake elbow on it and a boost fooler to get more air to it.
An Intake Horn wont do anything for you.
The boost fooler with an adjustable elbow might help a wee bit.
Upgrading the turbo will help you use the 150s. Even a cheap upgrade from the stock HE341 to a HE351 would be noticeable.

You will notice a rise in power but a drop in mileage going to the He 351 CW. It allowed me to go well into the 400hp range. I've run one on mine for a year before I finally put the VE version on. It needs a load on the engine to be efficient so its great for towing but empty you have less low end I had around 2mpg less running that than the He 341.

The 150's are what is dropping your mileage, anything above a 50 generally drops mileage.

But in all honesty 19.2 is pretty good!

To utilize the 150's you need a turbo, HE351 would barely cover it you really need a 62/68/14 with those nozzles.

You also need to get gauges with 150's, you can easily run the EGT's way too hot with your setup.

If you still have the OEM airbox you may try it for mileage, they pull cooler air than most the aftermarkets and support the air required for 450 rwhp.

An intake horn is good for dropping the intake air temp, helping the turbo spool, and increasing airflow in the low-mid range rpms. I didn't notice a change in mileage with mine but the rest of the benefits were worth it.

I've been averaging 15.2-15.6 over the past several tanks, rural/town driving. Earlier this year I was getting as high as high 17s. Just figured it was the low-sulphur fuel. Took a trip in August out to SLC. 5,000 (round trip) miles towing about 6,000#, mileage averaged just above 12mpg regardless of speed, but on the return trip I found that when I added 1oz./gal of 2-stroke oil (the cheap Walmart stuff) my towing mileage went up to the low 14s.

Wish I were getting 19 mpg.

How does a HE351 cause a drop in mileage? It should make no difference in mileage, in fact if cruise boost is lower you should get slightly better mileage.
