Xzt Egt

A buddy of mine got a quad XZT a few months back and just got a recon xzt gauge for christmas. He is a little worried about his EGTS. The truck is a 2004.5 qc 4x4 with 48re. From a dead stop, putting the truck to the floor, he reaches 1350 degrees by about 60 mph. If he keeps into it, it goes to 1410 by about 75-80 and then cools back down to 1360 from 85-110. Now i know that this is pushing the truck pretty hard, but are these temps normal? Whats gonna happen when he puts 10 grand behind it? His only airflow mod is a BHAF filter. Getting plenty of boost, 39psi so that should be plenty. Just looking for some advice, it seems like 1100 degrees is just another temp on this truck, it gets there effortlessly.

Thanks for the help. If this is normal, then he can learn to live with it, but if not, any suggestions?

Thanks again.

Oh yeah, one other thing. We took the xzt off last night and ran the truck stock. By 90mph it was 1360 degrees without any fueling box....normal?

Mine's an 05 & it'll hit 1450 w/ ease. That's with the quad race on 60 Hp. Not sure how similar that is to the XZT #'s though.

I also have an 05 no problem running stock to get 1300, put a trailer behind it and you will really see it go through the roof.

To me the question becomes, how much can these trucks really take. If a stock 05 will hit these kind of temps pulling a trailer, then how many trucks are out there everyday running 1500 degrees and the owner is oblivious? I just dont understand making a stock truck be able to hurt itself.

Those temps are normal. I can hit 1400*+ pretty easy while unloaded with my Quad standard on the 100 hp setting. Towing about 9000 lbs this past weekend up some pretty long, fairly steep grades in the California desert I hit just over 1400* with the Quad on the 60 hp setting. I was going about 65 mph in 3rd at 2500 rpm or so. Not positive on boost but I think I was hitting around 30 psi.

From reading all the forums we DO know how much these trucks can take - the #6 cylinder seems to be the relief valve! The only way to relieve the high EGT's and their damages is to get them moving OUT faster and cooling them down with MORE inlet air volume. This does seem to be being accomplished with twins better than singles or a single with a better overall air volume, and maybe the addition of a better flowing exhaust manifold.

From reading the instructions regarding the installation of the Quad Commander product, I noticed they suggest the PYRO be installed out by the #2 cylinder. It is already a KNOWN fact that this EGT reading is lower than if the pyro is installed in the area of #4-5 which would reflect temps better in the problem area. The natural air circulation in the immediate area of the rear end of the block IS also part of the problem, so installation of a hood with air inlet features directed toward the rear of the block?

Lots of things to consider.

Stock with my 6 speed I cant get any egt's over 1250* (pyro installed @4-5 cylinder) This is lugging from 900 rpm all the way too 3200 rpm. Peak egts are at 2900, and cool down too 1200* by 3200.

With my 110 hp Dr.P Predator Still only hit 1300* (Stock turbo @37 psi), keep in mind outside air temps right now are only 20*, so I imagine as soon as it is 70+ outside i will see the same egt's as you guys!

What elevation are you up there? The way I understand it is higher the elevation the less air, I am just wondering if these are some of the differences. I am at 4500 feet. Just put my Smarty on and took it for a spin it seems to run hotter than my SC. Looks like time for a bigger turbo
