will 305s or 315s clear with NO LEVELING KIT?

Saw an 06 today with BFG 315/70/17 with STOCK SUSPENSION SETUP and stock chrome clad wheels. WOW.... Does it make a difference, makes the wheels look aftermarket. Well I am definetly leaving the stock wheels and keeping the suspension absolutly stock, NO LEVELING KIT. After some research it boils down to with:

BFG A/T- 315/70/17 @ $212ea
Goodyear Wrangler MT/R- 305/70/17 @ $234 EA
PRO COMP ALL-TERRAIN- 33/12.5/17 @ $175 EA

The Goodyear Wrangler are FAR more superior than the BFG's and the procomps are supposed to be pretty much the same as the BFG's just much less. So will I have a problem with any of those tires with stock wheels and stock suspension? Will it clear?

If I may give me thoughts on this:

Get the 305's or 33's...dont mess with 315's.
The 315's or 35's will look like donuts on a 17" rim.
Also you leave yourself open for death wobble and have to level the front of the vehicle if you go with 315/35's if you run an aftermarket rim.

I actually bought a set of 315's at one point but decided against using them at the last minute. I went back to 33/12.50's again. I am glad I did too!

By the way the Pro Comp all terrains are a good tire. The Goodyear MTR is also a nice unit.
Right now I run the Mickey Thompson MTX and its great...good price too! (ebay!).

i had Goodyear MTR's...285's. they were D rated....and couldnt support the weight of my truck. at highway speeds they would sway in the wind on the soft side wall....and somehow in 2000 miles one of the treads ripped itself apart leaving a huge hole. not good.

look for E rated tires or D ratings with the same weight capacity as E....they do exist.

my next tires will be BFG's...if i ever get out of Toyos. if you wear Toyos out fast enough according to the warranty, your next set will be pro-rated. i can go through 4 tires in 12-15k....so pro-rated helps ALOT.

Viking,
I would say that the above post is correct! I didnt have problems with Dwobble until I put 315's on, and then it took 45K+ to ruin my ball joints. Now, I guess Im still faced with the same issue having 35x12.5's BFG MT's, which are the bomb, but may wear some parts out. My truck has 82Kmiles on it, so I guess it was time for balljoints and track bar.

I have 305 70 17's on mine, and they look good. I put some 315's on at the tire dealer, but I only had 1 inch or so of clearance while turning my tires left to right. One of my friends put a street tread 315 on his truck, and you could see the rubbing in his fender wells. I have a very aggressive tread on my 305's, and plenty of room.

Mine back when I ran 315s w/ stock suspension. Slight rub at full lock but never any damage to the tires from it. With the H2 rims it did not rub at all until I installed the fender flares with mudflaps...

You think the MTX will be a better tire than the PROCOMP All-terrain or WRANGLER MT/R?

I am pretty much looking for a tire that will give me the best light and deep snow traction, wet, mud but still retain comfort and NOT loose handiling and road performance like 1/4 times. The wrangler MT/R seem to dominate in everything.

I think if your looking for complete performance and 1/4 times then definitely go with the pro comp all terrain or an equivalent.
The MTX is more of a mud tire.

Check these guys out (this is where I got my new set):

I agree with PourinDiesel... You will be happier with 305's.

OK, so what I need PROCOMP is the best.....huh? Still keep my performance and handiling in line but also have excellent snow/mud traction?

How about these MT MTZ?

I almost bought those same tires from those guys but they wanted $160+ to ship them to me, which pretty much negated the good price. I'm sure it won't be nearly as much for you since you're much closer.

Keep an eye on ebay because there are great deals out there. You just have to be patient, or lucky. I got my brand new 325/70-17 Open Country's for $700 shipped to my door.

yea but I dont want to lose performance and handiling, so you still think the procomp will be better for me? I hate uncomfortable rides in the HWY and those huge thread patterns look like trouble
