Wife got me a back-up-cam for X-mas, is this a POS? Help?

Hello all. I would not have bought this myself, the wife got it for me as an X-mas present. Will this make towing the trailer that much nicer? Should I just throw it on & run it? Or should I return it (25% restocking fee + shipping of course) and get myself some fuel gauges?

Thanx.

It's not going to help you any while towing. Only when you are backing the trailer up. I have a cheap backup camera that is pointed directly at my trailer ball. One time to get the trailer hooked up now... Priceless.........

where in the world do you shop?ive never heard of a restocking fee.maybe if it was a special order and the suplier couldnt return it,walmart has a backup cam for 88 bucks wireless of course and thats my canadian price, may be cheaper where you are,i returned a gps at walmart that was over 4 months old and i didnt have the box.no stocking fee there.as far as gifts from the wife are concerened i would install it and tell her you love it,my buddies complained about the lunches they got at work and bang the wives didnt make them no more,if mine is bad i feed it to the dog on the way home and say it was great hahahaha

That one looks better than the wireless piece of junk I bought at Target for $100 that mounts to the license plate or whatnot. I mounted it to the bottom side of the tailgate looking down on the drop hitch. Worked great, for about a week .

Nah, the wife still screaming STOP even though you can clearly see you are not far enough yet.

Looks like a decent unit to me, I don't know about the size of it though, looks kinda big.

Oh, cool, you can hook it up as an LCD monitor too. In that case, that side of it is okay, the camera is still a bit bulky looking to me though.

Nice cam, but....

John, that is a very nice cam and you should thank your wife dearly for it and tell her it shows just how much she loves you. But, you should also explain to her, since she probably drives a gasser, that for the cam to work at peek efficiency you also need one of these and this as 'special adapters'.

I could be wrong and please correct me if I am but I do believe it is illegal to have audio/camera unless you are the long arm of the law

HA! Classic stuff. Probably best to just throw it on. I think it is for putting on the back of my trailer. And of course getting a FP gauge. The trailer is huge and ya' can't see squat behind ya.' I all ready have an XM radio lil' unit mounted, and I recently got a nice Garmin GPS thingy. I may run out of space. But, I guess I should just pop it on (may be more than a "pop").

Thanx guys.

Nah. Think about all the surveillance at banks, Home Depot, parking lots, etc.

Some States do have laws abouting recording Audio without a persons consent. I do not think it is a problem having video/audio that is not being recorded.

I think he's talking about having the A/V screen "in" the cab w/ the driver.

In Tx, A/V can't be within the drivers view while operating the vehicle. Can't have those flip-down DVD screens up front.
