Why does a CR sound so much better than a 12v?

It's all personal preference. I like 12vs with plenty of timing and a good bit of turbine music

Ill take a 12valver turning 5k with a big bro/ phat Edit any day over a raspy CR.
I LOVE the sound of any cummins straight piped but as for DD's I like my 24v the best.

You know, I think raspiness (is that a word) has something to do with the materials used and the way the pipe is installed. I have heard some real raspy CR and mine has more of deep tone all the time. But like a said I like em all.

You see how I voiced my opinion and then dissed a large group of DTR members who love CRs and made myself look like an ? Take note

24V sound is amazing yet a 12V rolling 4000RPM sounds grand!!! Yet to hear a straight piped CR that didn't sound like crap... oh wait they are!!

All Cummins sound great, no matter which one you've got. You can easily tell the difference between a 12valve, 24valve, or a Common Rail, but now matter what - it still sounds like a Cummins. Personally I'd take the sound of a straight-piped 12valve or 24 over a CR, but they tend to be a bit noisier for my liking. But either way - it's all music to my ears!

By the way, a 12V CTD is the best medium duty diesel engine ever made.

The only way you can get a CR to sound decent IMO is to put on bigger exhaust like 5". But, There is no way that they will EVER sound as good as a 24 valve or a 12 valve. I personally like the sweet sound of 24valve, the motor and the exhaust. A 24v with 5" (like my old 01)is probably the best sounding diesels I ever heard. When I was in my 01 cruising around or pulling a load and I wanted some tunes to listen to, I just rolled the winders down!

Haven't heard a CR I liked yet but I'm hoping that changes because I have plans for 5'' stacks on my new truck as well...
