Why does a CR sound so much better than a 12v?

lmao!

you happen to hear about the 12v breaking 1200hp???????

ever hear of a 12v melting down an engine from hanging an injector?

the 3rd gens make some great power, and they have many positive features over the old mechanical engines, but to argue that a 3rd gen sounds better than ANY other Cummins or that the 12v is inferior is just ignorant!

they didn't smash the 12v in 4yrs... the 12v was pushed out in 98... seems like it took almost 10yrs for them to "smash" the 12v (which they still haven't)

if it weren't for the EPA, the new Dodges would still have 12v engines in them... far better fuel efficiency, far better reliability, etc.

It's all a matter of personal preference, I think the 12v's SOUND the best but the CR's are the loudest. Thats my opinion, not everyone else shares it though.

I have both, the 12v is topps over my 07 CR . 12Vsounds like a D8 CAT on steroids my 07 sounds too refined and it drones horribly I ended up putting a walker muffler on it and i dont care how fast the "computer" is you cant beat the response of a throttle cable

IMO, 12 valves sound beter a low RPM, when they're pulling a heavy load. CR's sound great when they're revving high.

Ya ,what forrest said,a guy smashed 1200 the other day.Not only that ,look at the pulling trucks from scheid. They make like 1700.You should be more informed before you make foolish comments. The p pump was only out for 5 years as well, they cant have the trucks too reliable, otherwise the parts guys would go broke.

Bottom line is that the 12 valve layed the foundation for the new common rail trucks. A cummins is a Cummins and no matter a 12, 24 or common rail diesel, they all sound better than than the other two so called diesel brands. Why anyone would call a 12 valve a piece of crap is beyond me. Why do you even drive a Cummins if your going to call it a piece of crap? Maybe you should go try a 6.4... (LMAO)

WOW I like the way they all sound. I have owned them all and still own a 12 valve. I cant believe you guys are arguing amongst yourselves. BTW who cares what they sound like, or look like, what wheels they got...the bottom line is what they run like and their longevity.

i never said anything about commonrails not having power. yea i heard about rc ***. hopefully his tranny will hold to get some 1/4 mile times. I never said anything about power between the two. I just happen to like the way 12vs sound at 5k RPMs. But hey has anyone heard as commonrail at 5k? james

I think that guys who say they hate the sound of a 12 valve would be like saying they hate their grandpa. And a 12 valve guy saying they hate the sound of a CR would be like saying they hate their grandson...darn whippersnappers

I personally like the 12 valve at idle and upto about 1600 rpms, the 24 valves take 2nd upto 1600 and first upto about 2200, but a raging 600+ hp CR at wot 2200+ rpms takes the high end sound. But hey I lik'em all!!
