Mine was straight piped for a while. I loved it, you could hear that beast from atleast a mile away if I rally got on it. I have the MBRP cool duals now, They arnt as loud but look alot better than the stock pipe. Next is a 5" exhaust w/stacks.

Here is the list I PMed to powerstrokin03;
Here is exactly what you will need to order to do this your self;
Code: M085171 (Donaldson muffler $73.64 X1)
Code: GALV4 (Flex tubing, 2ft $10.06)
Code: 4310-436 (Aluminized Steel Tubing 4" X 36" $23.22 X1)
Code: J009606 (Aluminized SealClamp 4" Pre-Formed $8.22 X2)
Code: 426-240 (U-Bolt Exhaust Clamp 4" $4.29 X2)
Total: $123.36 plus S&H
All purchased from AirFlo.com
I also used some pieces of scrap 1'' angle iron to hang the new muffler.
You will need a MIG welder, sawzall, and a few other basic tools to complete this install.

I'm assuming your muffler is 7-10" in diameter and 25-30" long... even though you can see straight through it, it's doing a LOT to muffle the sound. don't get me wrong, it's not hurting performance, and if you need a quiet exhaust note, that's fine and dandy, but those 3rd gens just don't sound right w/ a muffler... I'm not a huge fan of earlier CTD's w/ "louder" mufflers either, but they still sound like a straight 6 diesel... the 3rd gens sound like V6 Acura or something
BUT, I've heard a few straight piped 3rd gens, and although they don't sound the same as the earlier trucks, they still sound **** good IMHO!!
the mufflers take all the harshness off the exhaust note and leave all the wierd soft flutter... straight pipe leaves all the rough edges on the exhaust note, and they cover up the 3rd gen flutter no ricer on earth can come close to the sound of an uncorked 5.9L I6 turbo diesel!

If I may borrow a picture from DPPI's website, my muffler looks like this if you look through it:
It's a 4" pipe with the little perforations inside of a 6" pipe approximately 30" long.
I'd go straight pipe if I could hear someone else that had one first. I don't want to go to the expense of straight piping it only to have the same ricer sound...only louder.

that's what my muffler looked like inside... are your louvers facing forward or backward?
I've heard a few straight piped 3rd gens, and they sound good IMHO... my buddy's 600 w/ the louvers facing backward sounded pretty dang good actually, but with a quieter "performance" muffler, they just don't sound right to me...
but straight piped, they sound good!
