Oh yeah, it smokes a pretty fair amount when I'm in level 5, but the problem I have is that the stock turbo spools up so quick that the smoke doesn't last long.

I ask because I've not seen any 3rd gens that just really dump out smoke. I wonder what mods it takes to really turn this thing into a coal train when I put some weight behind it.

Well that makes two of us, I wouldnt mind drivin a coaltrain myself.
I dont know first hand but I am pretty sure if you run a tst stacked with an mp8 or ez it will more or less dump out black smoke but I am sure somebody that does know first hand will be speakin up shortly. And get ready for somebody to tell you that you shouldnt want you truck to smoke, and it is only wasted fuel and money

Oh yeah, I was even going to mention the fact of being called out for killing the Ozone layer, wasting precious fuel, etc.

How would I blow smoke at an idle? RamWheelsby4, how do you smoke like that standing still?

HorseHauler, who's truck is that? Any specs on it? I want to see what he has done in order to make his truck do that.

He's sitting still with one foot on the brake and one foot on the accelerator!!!

Your 3rd gen isn't gonna make the kind of smoke that an older 12 valve will. Mine smokes when I hammer it but it's still nothing like my old stock 92 CTD did...

That was TST(twins) 7/6, EZ level 3, BDDL Performance program, foot on brake as hard as I can hold and throttle going slowly to the floor.

With the BD Triple Dog Performance or Crazy Larry and any combo of TST and EZ mine will smoke pretty close to a 12v until the SPS66 lites up. I am running just TST and EZ now, doesn't really smoke a lot on lower settings. Boxes turned up will smoke a lane or two until the SPS66 lites.

I would like to run a dd but the fe is about half the price and rated at 550 horse. Any thoughts, suggestions or info would be appriciated.

so far so good. first couple of miles i slipped it; but it just has to be broke in. also ,right now im keeping the power levels down just because i don't want to waste the turbo. pretty grabby backing up sometimes; more so trying to back up slow and on any grade it's worse. call peter at southbend and talk to him. nice guy and full of info. gives you more of a warm, fuzzy feeling after you talk to him in making you decision anymore questions just ask
