who has this setup...???
not sure how to word the title properly, sorry...
but anyways I was wondering who was running a stock intake with the intake tube baffles taken out or replaced with either a torque tube, one of them stainless tubes genosgarage.com sells, or one someone made, and with silencer rings taken out. oh and with stock muffler/exhaust. i was wondering what kind of whistle you all hear with the mods to the intake tube and silencer ring gone? will i get a nice/noticeable whistle with just these mods? i don't know if i wanna spend 50-80$ for an intake tube replacement for not much sound difference, but if there is deffinately a big difference mainly outside the truck then i'm all about it... Thanks to anyone that responds
oh and would love to hear from someone with same type truck i have... 04.5 or 05 with auto...

Eric, I have the exact setup you are asking about. I purchased a piece of stainless exhaust tubing to replace the straight piece with the plastic baffles in it, then I removed the plastic baffles from the 90 degree elbow and removed the silencer ring from the turbo. The sound is quite a bit louder from inside and outside the truck, but not obnoxious. I think most of it comes from the resonance of the metal tubing. I like the sound, not too loud for me or the family, and like the fact that I still have the stock air filtering in place.....Robert

I actually purchased the tube from someone on Ebay, and I was pleased with the quality and shipping speed.
If you do a search using "2003-05 Dodge Cummins Air Inlet tube from B&L" you will see he has 3 of them on there now. Only difference from the picture is mine was painted black, not like the one in the picture. I actually decided I liked the black better because you don't even notice it on there. On second look, I guess it isn't stainless, but not sure how much that matters.
I did almost purchase the one from Geno's, but went the cheaper way.

I have also seen a post with a link to this piece here, but it was after I purchased mine. It is cheaper though, and looks like it would work/sound the same....Robert

Big Rig Shop
Horsehauler,
I got my replacement tube from my local big rig shop, just call around and see if they have some 5.5" aluminum intake tubing. I think I paid 13 or 14 bucks for the 18" I got, don't think you need that much, 1 foot should do you. Just take out the plastic 'apple slicer' and measure end to end and cut you tubing to length. Polish or paint to your liking.

Pvc
I tried a piece of PVC first, but didn't get the resonance or "ringing" that you get with the metal tubing. I would think the airflow would be just as good though, and you aren't transfering the heat with PVC if that makes any difference...Robert
