Where under dash can I tap into reverse light wire?

Installing some backup lights that have ability to come on when shifted into reverse.

Ideally want to find wire under dash or as close to dash as possible.

TIA

There is a reverse wire in the trailer wiring harness at the back of the truck. If all you want is the lights to come on when you are in reverse then just tie in to that wire right at the back of the truck. Just another option.

If you have a standard tranny, take into the reverse switch on the passenger side of the tranny. It's the only electrical connection there. Two wires.

Automatic tranny, probably the same thing but harder to find the wires I would imagine.

Since I haven't actually seen the lights or the instructions (at a friend's house) I'm not sure how they hook up.

However they are PIAA's and he told me the switch has three settings.

1. lights on
2. lights off
3. lights on when in reverse

I would imagine this is why he asked me to find out where we can tap in near the dash, based on the 3 different switch settings?

P.S. I have an auto

I used the wire that feeds the 7pin trailer connector. Just unbolt it from the bumper and pull it out a bit. the you can use a wire tap and some elec tape and your done. You will need to run wires to the rear bumper anyways so its not much more work.

I just put on halogen b/u lights. The purple/black wire is the b/u lights and I used the white/red (12v+ to the trailer batteries) to power them thru the relay. I got 2.5v drop just using the pur/bk to power the lights without the relay. I wish I would have had wiring diagrams - there's extra relay spots in the relay/fuse panel. Craig

Yes, I'd think you'd be best off putting a relay in rather than getting all the juice for the additional tail lights from the 1 factory wire.
Have not put new ones on my Dodge but had them on my old Ford, they were too dim until I ran a seperate bigger wire back to the relay from the battery and just used the factory wite to trigger the relay.
(if you know what I mean...)
