i could pull my stock filter minder down with a brand new filter and NO programming. installed the smarty and it got worse. cut a HUGE hole in the bottom of the stock air box and fixed that problem.

You will be fine with the stock system!
Like cbrahs said, pay no attention to the filter minder...
I would invest in some gauges though, if you haven't already.

Werd. Same here. Well, I was fine untill I put my Juice box on. Then, I could suck my filter minder all the way down. And, DO pay attention to that. If it sucks down the minder, ...ITS SUCKING!
I drilled 100 1/2" holes, in the bottom portion of my airbox (swiss cheese). Then, I could only suck down a small portion on the filter minder.
Next, I added a Airaid drop in filter. Now, I can't suck it down, ANY. Went ahead and removed the bafflling in the intake hose, and my truck sounds like I have a large cone style filter, or BHAF.
But yeah, the stock air box is the first most restrictive part. Then, the air filter.

Thats what we all say...you will be on level 3, or at least 2, before you know it. Its addicting...at least get guages.

When I first bought my truck I got the crazy larry file and sucked my filter into the tube. It was a cheap purolator that the previous owner put in. I would get a cold air kit as soon as the funds allow.

But I can suck that thing down when it is idling...
I had it before being a member here, and I thought something was wrong, and was not very happy to say the least...
Before I knew any better, a Google search led me to a discussion about that very subject on here...
It's been down hill ever since..., in a good way.!
