Question Whats the difference

OK I just figured out that I DONT have the 600 series motor (EVEN THO THE DEALER SAID IT HAS THE NEW ONE) what is the big difference? Or is it just the next gen. for Cummins? Is there that much difference in performance? This motor is alot quieter and has a lot more power than my old 2000 model. The dealer kept telling me that these were the big changes. Can anyone give me some insite on these issues? Because right now I'm pretty Hot! If they don't know what there selling then they souldn't be doing it for a living. But, If its not all that big I don't want to make a fool out of myself when I go see them on Monday! Any info. would be great

Some of the bigger changes were new pistons, which feachure a differently shaped bowl for improved combustion-chamber swirl, and a new computer that uses 550 kilobytes of code, nearly double the amount that last year's computer required. other improvments are fuel-injection system that feeds fuel to each cylinder in three separate doses per power stroke, a new geometry of the exhaust-manifold, upgraded turbo charger, 4" exhaust outlet, and a mopar accessory and cooling shroud that is mounted to the engine rather than the radiator.

Another big difference is "it does not get as many MPG"

Did you buy it brand new? Or did you buy it used? From a Dodge dealer?

What did you buy anyways? An SO, an HO? what?

Your hot? There also comes a time when you have to take responsibility yourself. What did the documentation say? Being that you're a prior CTD owner, you can't claim ignorance can you? Maybe thats why your hot?

Bulabula said what I was thinking. How does one NOT KNOW what one is buying?

Look on the valve cover - if it says 325 hp, you have a "600", if not, then, well, good luck with your dealer.

OK bulabula and wexman, I understand what your sayin. Its a HO and I understand what I was buying. When I first started lookin at the new ones all the dealers raved about the new 600. I assumed( ya know what that can mean) that all the new trucks would have it. No one said it wouldn't be out til mid 2004. So shame on me for not coming to you guys to find out before . Its not that big of a deal I guess this truck runs great. It will do all I want. I guess I just felt mislead after reading some of the forums and they kept refering to the 2004.5 600 coming out. It makes me wonder if they really knew about it not being put out till then, i just went by what I was told, Thats what upset me. Shame on me for not researching before, shame on them for not knowing what they are selling. Thanks for your imput. I have some other questions but I'll get into that later.

'Glide, I think you're golden with that 555. They're all good. I remember some folks around here stressing when just after buying a new 555, that the 600 was being introduced. "Should I trade it back, Am I gonna miss that extra 45?" That kind of stuff.

Misleading dealers? Heck, there's a local DC dealer still selling CTD's with "cummings" painted on the windshield!

You're gonna love the truck......

The 555 is a great truck. A bude and I went and test drove a new 600 this weekend. I could not really tell a difference in power between my 555 and the 600. The biggest thing I have heard is that the 600 likes to drink fuel. Just my .02

If you have a catalytic converter, you have the 600. Look underneath the truck, you can't miss it.

The difference between the 600 and the 555 is about 8mpg!

I'd say your "mistake" was actually a blessing in disguise... I wish I would have been "duped" into buying a 555... see, I feel like an idiot for MAKING SURE I got the 600.

No flames please, I realize all 600's aren't bad, but mine is one of the turds... looking to trade it for something else at this point.
