whats best wheel and tire combo on a 04.5?
what is the best wheel and tire combo for a 04.5 2500 4x4? i was thinking of going with stock aluminum wheels and 315's or h2 wheels and 315's, with no lift kit on truck.any rubbing issues with either choice?are h2 wheels a direct fit wheel? i don't want to get that dreaded death wobble. thanks in advance

I can't answer based on experience, only on what I've read about the H2 wheels (since I almost bought some). They seem to fit perfectly except that you will have to drill a larger hole for the center hub. The GM hubs are smaller diameter than the Dodges and you can find the exact hole size if you do a forum search for hummer wheels. I run 285/70's on stock steel wheels and find that they drop the gear ratio (3.73's) only a small noticeable amount. If you're running 3.73's, I would think that 315/70 tires will drop your gear ratio very low and probably degrade mpg for city type driving. Check eBay for the hummer wheels and tires - there are some great deals out there.

I wont get into the mpg thing but ive been looking hard on ebay for deals. My adviice is if they dont list exact shipping email them first. Alot of people trying to rip you off majorly and charge up to 300$ shipping. The "good deals" are around 120$ shipping I'm guessing there the guys shipping freight not ups. Also everyone seems to have luck with there local dealers. So I wouldnt count out calling them and asking about h2 take offs.

If I had the money, and wasn't sitting on a brand new ride with brand new tires, I would get a set of Weld Cheyenne 8's in 20" x 10" and put Nitto 305 50 R 20's on there.

I just finished installing the H2 wheels and 315's (thanks to nebuniRAM and Wetspirit) and this fit perfectly. I do not get any rubbing anywhere at anytime and I even have the factory mudguards. I have about $ 800.00 in tires, wheels, mounting, balancing all together. Only thing that I have left to finish is fabricating a way to get the Dodge center caps to fit, I temporarily have the H2 caps on.
Very happy with the H2 wheels and 315's...did I say that already !

I just got a set of H2 wheels and was looking at different center caps. Do you have any pictures showing the H2 caps?

The H2 caps will fit on the front, but not on the back, due to the hub sticking out. They're ugly anyway (IMHO).
The stock Dodge center caps are pretty easy to modify. I used a hacksaw and some tinsnips, took me about an hour to do the job. They look better on these wheels than the stock Hummer caps do.
Do a search on center caps on the forums, there's a couple of threads about how to do it, or just PM me, I'll tell you what you need to do.

It's my opinion that there are so many take-off h2 wheels because they are ugly and even the poor-taste having h2 owners know well enough to ditch them! 
There have been some nice wheel/tire combo pics posted on here and TDR, however most of them will require some fender flares to help protect the truck. Check out some of the wheels Rickson offers. You can run commercial/semi type tires on them, which last 100K+ miles supposedly.

I have the BFG 315/70R/17s on the stock 17x8 Alloy wheels. I like the combination just fine so far. Calculated that the tire size changed my 3.73 gear to about 3.43. So far I haven't noticed much difference in MPG or acceleration performance, but only 4500 miles. Still getting broke in.
I have 2" leveling kit, but I don't think it is necessary on 2500 4x4 with stock 17x8 wheels.

Some of the aftermarket wheels are plain ugly unless your the type that has to have that "bling bling" look. No offence...but what is with the huge wheel tiny tire look nowadays....maybe I am from the old school but I see these huge chromed spinning rims and laugh everytime I see them going down the road.
