What are your thoughts on my wheel/tire set up for the strip??

I ordered two M&H Drag Radials for the rears, they are 275/50R17. specs are:28" overall tire diameter,8.8" tread width,10.7" section width. the tires require a 9" rim. Will these be to small?? will they match up close to the factory rubber in the front?

Can I get away with putting them on my stock rims(8") or will I have to buy a set of 17x9" rims?? If so I think I have some picked out they are Panther EMR chrome 17x9". If you know a better rim for the same price(like 170 a rim) let me know.

28" tires are going to hurt your top end. I bought a set of 390/40/17 which are 29" tall. I haven't used them yet.

If you have the stock 265/70R/17s they are about 31.6" diameter. 28" or about 27.8" by the tire calculator won't work very good, and not at all in 4wd.

It wont work because the front and rear axles will be turning at diff speeds do to diff tire size's while the t-case is trying to turn the axles at the same speed. Something will go boom and cost money. IMO your better of with 33" tires at the track. There short enough there not kill your launch, but tall enough to give you a little more top end. 28's are to small, IMO.

You need to take that truck to the track and find out what kind of launches the stock tires will take now. Trial and error is the best way to find out what works best. Knowing what your current tires will do gives you a baseline and you will be able to guess closer on the first try with new tires. The advantage of your twins, fueling and 4wd should allow you to launch at a reasonable boost level and still hook up. After you are through with the next level mods you need to do the same thing to see how the power changes what level you can launch at. I agree that 33s are about the best size tire for the track. I could launch at higher boost with the 35s and get the same 60' times, but my 33s turn better times with a little more conservative launch. If you are going to use the truck for daily driving on the street then find an all terrain radial in the 33" range and see what they will do. And yes different size tires in 4wd will nuke something in the drive train pretty quick.

all trucks are different but i run bfg's a/t 315/70/17 at the track. i borrowed a buddys set of 285's and lost 2/10's at the track with them. the complete oppisite of what i thought. all i did was spin real bad off the line. my truck runs best with the 35'' tires. 25lb launches and 1.69-1.75 60 ft times and no spin.

chw,

I have a set of BFG 315s on stock chrome steel wheels that you can try if you want. They still have 5-8k tread left, enough to hook up on the track. Let me know if you want to try them, I can drop them off at Michaels if you do.
