What year did Cummins come out with variable vane turbo?

What year did Cummins come out with variable vane turbo?

I have a 2004.5 ram diesel. would it have a basic turbo or a variable vane one?

You have a regular turbo.The 6.7's have the variable rate turbos

ok thanks. If I bypass the wastegate by clamping hose or taking it off will i overboost? I want to rule out whats wrong with my edge and high egt problem

You shouldn't with the fueling you have. Just watch the boost numbers.

With the stock turbo you can peak your egts pretty easy on the high settings. Put a small 62mm turbo on and it will help in all ways greatly.

What power level are you running it on? Looking at your signature if you are running it at level 4 or higher I would expect to see EGTs of 1400+ pretty quickly. Sounds like you are a candidate for a turbo upgrade. If you are going to disable your wastegate be careful. Dont go more than 40psi of boost with it. At that level it really isnt going to be efficient at all. It will just pump hot air, but you also have to worry about them blowing up anywhere after 40. I know some guys run them higher, but I have seen them pop at 42psi.

Juice with attitude will have the boost fooling built in on the 04.5

it doesnt seem to fool boost. all i can see on edge attitude is 23 psi max. (unloaded)
