What up with my Tranny Temp?

Hey guys. I have been battleing this issue for a while. I installed my tranny temp about a year ago. Autometer Phantom ll. I have it hooked up to the trans hot line. It seemed I could never get the trans hotter than about 150 degrees. I called Autometer and they sent me an entire new setup because I told them I thought these temps were too low and the gauge may have been defective. So, with the new gauge hooked up, the highest I can still get my temp is 150 or so. That is driving in town on hot days. When towing an 11k load, I can't get over 130 degrees. Even up 6 or 7% grades. Grades are only about 1/4 mile long. Why are my temps so low, or should I say; or do I have something hooked up wrong? Thanks.

It sounds like you have it on the return line after the coolers.

Nope. I don't. I even tried to see what the other line put out. I think I am screwing up the sending unit when I tighten the nuts down. Both times, I have peeled off a little platic in the sensor when cranken down the nuts. Not sure though.

Whats the temp outside. Driving in Texas 90+ my temps will stay about 160 on the highway about 190-200 in town. When its 70ish, temps are about 140 150

Temps are around 50 to 60 degrees. But even last year when temps were 80, tranny stayed cool.

I don't see much over 160* unless it's hot out (80*+) or lots of stop and go.....when it's 100* out, i'm at 190-200* in stop and go...

That is correct. It will read 100* until the temp gets over 100* then you will start to see it rise. It can't read below 100*

Same temps here, 180-190 max, but ours are built a little different maybe.

Thats what the little manual said when I installed it. I have tried e-mailing them a few times for info on products but never got a reply back.

How is your tranny temperature sender connected? Where is it exactly?

I was curious what everyone else was seeing for temps as well. I run about 140 on the highway, if I get into stop and go or stop with it in drive I can watch the gauge slowly climb to 180 or 190. I haven't installed a fan shroud yet so maybe that will help too...

I am running the entire dodge setup for tranny cooling by the way.

I just noticed that you still have a stock tranny? I do know with an upgraded convertor and the transmission in gear, man does it want to move! I can imagine just changing to a aftermarket convertor would increase temps in stop and go traffic.

I would imagine that you could test the probe by using boiling water. Water boils at 212*f. That is only one data point though.

Be careful.............
