What tranny temps with probe in output line?
What kind of tranny temps are you guys that have the probe in the output line seeing? I can easily hit 210 just cruising around town empty. My truck is an '05 quad cab. I have a smarty (level 1 only) and 35" tires. However, I was seeing the exact same tranny temps when the truck was all stock. I realize the probe is going to be measuring the fluid at it's hottest spot, but that seems alwful high. The numbers start to get real scary when I'm towing up the mountains and get stuck in stop and go traffic.
Secondly, is there a tranny temp idiot light on these trucks? I think I recall hearing there was one, but I've never seen it (thankfully).
Thanks.
BTW....I just realized I may have posted this in the wrong section. I tried to delete and/or move this post, but couldn't seem to figure out how to delete the entire post......sorry

Thats a pretty normal temp for around town and the TC unlocked. As long as you get the TC locked up and the temps drop back to around 190 or less your fine. Your tires are are not helping in that area either. The 35's are too tall to use with a stock trans. Aside from the heat they are generating the tall tires have a tendency to slip the direct and forward clutches too much unless you do some mods.
You are reading the hottest temps which is what you want to see. This will allow you to modify your driving as needed. The big thing is keeping the TC locked up to minimize the heating. Using TH and manual 2nd will help with that.
Towing in the mountains is tricky at times due to the speeds. Too slow and its always shifting without the ability to lockout OD. If you can keep it in OD and the TC locked your temps should be fine unless you are way over the towing limits of the truck. If you are seeing excessive temps with the TC locked you are slipping the TC and/or clutches under a load.

Just got back from a trip to Ohio and back. I have my temp probe in a DieselManor hot line. I saw as high as 220" in stop and go traffic while pulling/hauling about 8000lbs of trailer and stuff in the the bed. Cruising on highway temperature sat at 160' while going as high as 180' while accelerating up to 80mph (tach at about 2500-2700 rpm) to pass semis on long grades through Kentucky,

i see 190 as the norm on an average day in town driving. on the highway, it is a bit lower and is lower on cool days (rain/winter)........will get up just past 200 if it is warm outside and i'm in traffic......towing you can add 10 degrees or so to the above.
when you say "scary"...what kind of temps are you talking about?

So do these trucks have a tranny temp idiot light? I'm not near my truck else I'd check the manual.
What made me nervous was when I got stuck on a very long, very steep, mountain road and we were in stop and go traffic. I was pulling about 6K, and the tranny temp got just above 250. I was about ready to pull over when traffic let up and the temps shot back down real quick.
