What tires do you recommend?
I'm looking to get a set of tires for a stock truck. I'm getting 305/65/17. what brand tire do you guys recommend for a meaty tread that will still do okay around town and on the highway?

Personally, I like mud tires. Toyo MT's will be my next tire. I've heard nothing but great reviews of this tire. Especially for how agressive the tread is. Not too loud, very drivable, and excellent traction.

I really like the toyo MT's but i was quoted $360 a tire. I think I might go with the Mickey MTZ's because they are about $215 a tire.

Thats a pretty callous statement to make about BFG, seeing as my first set got 45,000 and my current and second set i am around 49,000 and still have a couple more in them. I also have buddies that have pstrokes and their toyos lasted around 29k and they rotated every 4k.

I just put 305/70/17 Nitto Terra Grappler on mine, they are 34" and are E rated also. They are an all terrain style tread but alot more aggressive than stock. You can get them for about $225-250 each.

i personaly have had both toyo's and bfg's on my blazer. the bfg's were way better than the toyo's, were easier to balance and have a stronger sidewall. toyo's are a good tire, but in my opinion, bfg's are far better and less $ and have a longer track record than the toyo's. i cant vouch for how long the toyo's will last because i didnt keep them long enough (took them back after 10k miles cuz they sucked so bad { couldnt get them balanced well and the offroad traction sucked comparable to the bfg's}).... this was with a/t's on both brands of tires. i'll be going to bfg mt's when the time comes.

I too am partial to BFG's, and have a set of 285-70's on the truck now, little over 1/2 worn out with 29,000 miles on them. I will make 35K for sure, maybe 40. A co-worker has TOYO AT's and is very unhappy with them. Here is his post from a few weeks ago. His truck is wearing tires very evenly, more so than my 3rd gen, and he will be lucky to get 20K out of his TOYO's..He does not haul anything, just highway driving.
I just wish BFG would make a 285/70/17 with an E rating..

I have a set of 285/70/17 Toyo Open Country ATs on my 01 Cummins. They have a bit over 14000 miles and are at the wear bars. All of these are on pavement miles. The Michelins that were the original equipment tires wore much better than the Toyos. I am dissapointed with them. However, they are great in the water and snow.

Full on M/T tires are not the best choice for alot of around town and highway driving....only worth it if you spend some quality time offroad.
My favorite tires so Far are Cooper S/T...still on my truck since June 2005 ...100k miles and still going. Rotate every 5 or 10k. This included lots of towing well above the max (38,000 combined) and trying to put too much hp to the ground with over 25 hard drag passes and lots of practice. I had 265/70/17. I have Toyo 265/70/17's on the front now and I like them because they don't pick up as many stones ....like BFG A/T and my S/T's did...I have 20K on them so far and they are wearing great. ks

I'm running 35" BFG A/T's and love them, the front have about 40K on them, and will probably see another 15K, or until the winter, the fronts have about 12K on them and are nearly new. The traction is great is sand and snow, haven't experienced too much mud, but when you air the tires down to 15psi or so they bite very well, and bulge enough to keep the heavy front end from digging down into the sand like my old M/T's did, those things would burry the nose with 10psi in them, and its hard to pull a truck out like that. I too wish that BFG made 35's in an E rating, even 33's, I like the 35's, and they fit stock on the 2nd gens, but I would sacrifice size for peace of mind any day.
