what is a "soft" code?

I ran across this somewhere and just want to know exactly what it is.

Not sure what you ran across. But there are some codes that are referred to as stored codes. They were set at some point because of a condition and stay in stored code memory until reset.

I would call a soft code a code that only shows up when you read the ECM with a scan tool...a soft code does not turn the CEL on....I had them when my AC door broke..only showed the code when I hooked up the scanner....and NO CEL

HA!! Soft core. You dirty, dirty man. I like you. I put a grid delete and an air horn on my truck today. I did not get a CEL. I was just reading up on stuff and ran across the soft core...umm code term.
