What single for 550-600hp

Hey guys, got a buddy building up his 03 and he wants to do 550-600hp on a single turbo that can tow as well as be his daily driver. I told him the super b special but he said he wants something different. He will not tow anything over 10k and pretty much stay sea level to 3000ft. His mods are very similar to mine. Floor it pump, DDp90, AirDog, Smarty TNT, Water Meth, Auto tranny... So what do you think for a single turbo that can tow and support 550-600hp and daily drive. If not the super b special I say the garret stage 3 ball bearing. Let us know what you think and why?

DUK,

He might look at either a SPS64, or 66. Both will support 575hp+, the Special is a good turbo for 575+, but if he is not wanting it then the SPS, or HTT sledpuller 66 would probably work well for him.

getting a turbo that is a little to small is much better than buying one that is to big and laggy

HTT 64/65/13ss or 64/71/13ss knowing that the 71 will move a little more air but might lag a little. The 64/65 spools like stock. It will support 500hp, but 600 may get a little toasty - however, nothing you can't control with the right foot pressure.

will the 64/71 tow well as a weekend toy hauler towing two drag cars to the track on a gooseneck or a 33 ft go-fast boat?

Agreed, he is gonna have to get one and see if he likes it, then go from there. I would say these 2 turbos or a Silver will do the trick, but if he don't like it he can always have it rebuilt smaller or bigger. I would think with enough fueling the 64/71 will tow fine, but will roll some coal getting started.

All good info, I will share with him. I know his main objective is 600hp at the track or dyno and 500hp running (detuned) around town and being able to tow. So whats the top two turbos for that

I agree, but since he does want to tow some, I would think the 64/71/13 may be the best of both worlds. JMO

Honestly if it was me I would just get a silver bullet and be done. But this is also comin from a guy that had a SPS66, so I know what a little lag is like.

Yeah I see what you're saying. Its just hard to determine whats best for other ppl when their idea of spoolup is different than others. That's why I always try to point out that the II and HTT turbos can be sent back and up/ downgraded when needed. My satisfaction of the spoolup on my turbo for instance may not be good enough for others. So yeah the 13ss housing would work fine too, but be a little more toasty than a silver will.

I'm very pleased with mine. It might be a shade laggy right off the line, but once rolling down the road there's virtually no lag. I'd have no worries towing with it, although I haven't actually towed anything since I got the conversion done a few months ago.
