What Mod's am I missing? High EGT Problems!!

I think I've listed my mods pretty clearly in my signature, and I'm needing some advice on what to do to lower my EGT's without water/meth or twin turbos. Are there any hard parts I may be missing like a modded manifold, intercooler, 04.5 down pipe, larger exhaust, etc???? I'm just not sure if I'm missing something small that I should have added, as I never put the 04.5 downpipe on, only a 4" from turbo back exhaust. Did I outgrow my 4" exhaust, etc? These are the sort of questions I'm having.

I'm currently running Smarty beta 4.2 on lvl 5. With or without the addition of my Quad X2 (loaded with stack program) I'm seeing EGT's in the neighborhood of 1600deg unloaded at WOT, which I am well aware is above anyones comfort level. Being that I'm not 100% sold on a water/meth system and the upkeep that goes along with it, upgrading my turbo (again), and that I'd like to keep my EGT's in check by the addition of hard parts, etc, what could I do to lower them?

Keep in mind my truck is the early 03-04 (555) motor.

How much more fuel are you adding since the 484 dyno?

What are you boost numbers WOT?

Sorry the 484 dyno was with the smarty beta 4.4 program instead of the 4.2, and without the helix 2 cam, F1.8 injectors, head studs, valve springs, DTT intake horn, grid delete, and Quad X2 (with stack program)...so needless to say I'm due for a dyno.

I'm peaking around 45-47psi boost at WOT if I remember correctly. I'll double check that on my way home and report back.

I'm just trying to avoid stepping up to a 64/71/13ss turbo, which to me would create more lag than I already have (due to a tight goerend converter and the larger 71mm wheel in the turbo), twins, or spraying water/meth.

I'm not totally against water/meth, but if I can avoid the hassle of install and constantly checking to make sure it's full and keeping it full of fluids, I'd like to know how.

You may be at the end of a 62 for air.

Not gonna lie, I have been told that, but if I step up to a 64 then I assume it will create more lag than I have now, which I feel I already have too much lag. This is what I'm trying to avoid having to do, as I already have to use the tow/haul button like its going out of style!

the 2 things i have done to lower my EGT's that you haven't done are, 1. get rid of that 3 1/2 down pipe/exhaust elbow 2. added a spool aid.

both of those took a big chunk out of my EGT's

What's a spool aid? Also, where does one find a 4" down pipe/exhaust elbow? (also curious to know if my 4" MBRP would have taken care of that, but I don't think so)

Lots of 04.5-07 5.9's dumped them for their exhaust brakes. I gave mine away otherwise I would have sent it to you.

I don't know how much of a difference the elbow will make, but not a bad idea.

If you are concerned about spool then get manifold/turbine blankets, exhaust manifold, and a spool aid to go with the 64... or take some fuel away??

Have you considered going to a newer version of Smarty to adjust the options to work better with a bigger turbo?

All of the beta's were 170 to 230 hp versions no matter what SW version you were running. I would switch to the revo so you can turn it down, if you don't want to do that a bigger turbo isn't a bad idea. I used to run beta 4.4 and loved it and have heard 4.2 was better so I would not be shocked if you wanted to keep it.

I really do think getting rid of that 5 feet of 3 1/2 pipe will help out a lot.

Quadman20,
I appreciate your offer and will take you up on it. I will PM you the details and cover shipping. Thanks a ton!

I'm still unsure of what a spool aid is, but I'll look into it. Any recommendations? I'd like to stick with the 62, and I've heard it's hard to switch back to the betas once you go with the newer revos, so I'll take it one step at a time to see what hard parts I can add to lower my egts

A "spool aid" injects more air into the intake near number 1&6. the reason it works is because it bypasses the restriction in the ends of the cast intake. With more air in 1&6 they run cooler and I believe less likely to have heat related issues. IE scoring, melted piston, broken rings

I do know that the turbo did spool a little quicker and the EGT’s dropped some.

here's the link

Quick question on the elbow... Does your current 4" exhaust have a 3.5" flange? If so you will need new downpipe.
