Westin Bull bar install

For those of you that have one on, was it a problem for you to install? I went to take the tow hooks off and there seems to be NO way of getting a wrench behind it to hold the nut when trying to get the bolt off. Futhermore, seems like the bumper would have to come off , because the bottom 2 bolts on the tow hooks are kinda too far down to squeeze a wrench in there without scratching the bumper (possibly denting) all up. Thanx for any help, just trying to keep from taking it to an auto shop to have it installed cause they will charge like $120 just to install it. jamie

I pulled my tow hooks off, now it was about a year ago but I did manage to do it without pulling the bumper off. I remember the bolts where a real pain in the *SS, but with a will there is a way.
Good luck,
BTW once you get that bull bar on post some pictures I for one would like to see how it looks.

After much experimenting I was able to contort a wrench back there and get the two bolts I needed off to put on my Go Rhino Grill Guard. It was definitely a pain in the tukus. Good luck.

re:bull bar install

I'm installing my aries big ram bull bar right now....it can be kind of a pain in the *ss . I got my tow hooks off useing a impact wrench with an extension on the front bolts while holding the rear nuts with a socket. The ones on the driver side were a real pain I had to loosen the bolts that hold the ac con./intercooler to be able to get a socket with a swivel on the back nut. Trying to get the brackets mounted right now, needless to say for the price I paid for the bar the instructions that came with it are fare from good. One page with text on the front and a tiny diagram on the back that was a photo copy and faded. had to go online and even then I've managed to mount them upside down and backwards. trying again today i'll see how I make out.

My truck is 06. My Westin bull bar was easy as I recall, did by self. 4 bolts on each side. That being said, mine must have been different, cause seems like if it it can be a pain in A$$ it happens to me. Oh well, like my old Pap used to say (with aggravating projects) "Why do it the easy way if you can do it the hard way"

06s you dont have to remove the hooks and earlier years you do I think. Easy install but 2 person is needed to help hold and line up

Can anyone confirm about having/not having to remove the tow hooks for an 06 and up. I have been wanting to get a bull bar, but i am not to fond of removing the tow hooks.

Removing the tow hooks really isn't that hard. Use a wrench on the front to keep the bolt from spinning and loosen the nuts with a socket wrench and extension from the back. Its easier with a deep socket.

I did my Randy Ellis Designs light bar on my own in less than an hour, and I'm not a fast wrench.
