went to the track today

Hey everyone... i went to the track today and after weeks of trying to get out of the 15's i finally did it today. the only thing i did different is launch the truck at 1600rpms only making 3-5psi of boost. had a really good 60 foot time for a 3.73 rear end truck.

heres the times...

Reaction- .827
60 ft- 2.078
594 ft- 9.002
1/8 ET- 9.570
1/8 mph- 79.23
1/4 ET- 14.86
1/4mph- 92.19

edge box was on 5/5 with a decent amount of trans slip and the backdown was around 29-35% from run to run. still doesnt shift really well into 4th gear and likes to sit at 3300rpm for a while. the EGT was around 1150-1200 degrees by the end of the run.

all in all im pretty pumped, what do you guys think... could i get a lot more out of a convertor and a valve body? i've heard of dropping almost 1 full second + on some trucks.

anyway... great forum..happy to be a apart of it.

You will want to be looking for a new tranny very soon,,, Your tourque converter is most likely slowing you down drastically,,, still very good times. I could only get around 16 flats with mine when I had a comparable setup,, i didnt have a exhaust and I was running a bully dog pp. But I was running on a track that is around 3000 ' above sea level

thats a good time for stock tranny. I was running Juice on 5/5, AFE stage II, FASS 150, and a DTT for a best time of 14.9.....but i'll admit i didn't try 20 times, just 5 or 6.

Tranny will make a huge difference. Tq Converter/Valve body will help....($2000-$2500)

When I had my stock transmission (which didn't last very long due to an excess of fun), my best time was a 14.58. I had a EZ/Powerpup/Intake/Exhaust.....

Oh, and a fresh oil change

after 10 tries i can only get 15.000 with the juice. i was on 5/5 with the defueling turned off, but it backed down about 56%. my EGT's are at 1550 by the end of the run. my juice only shows 1300. autometer is 1550

well with the same mods as you plus DTT and a FASS i could only turn 14.51. I didn't like the EZ/Bullydog stack. only thing it was good for was smoke.

i am going to send in the Edge for the "hot" upgrade... so i know that will smoke the tranny pretty much right away. just dont want to dump more than i need to in the truck.

i only made 4 runs at the 14 second pass and got 3 of them in the 14's. after that i was running around 130 degree intake temps once the v8 guys got done doing there hour long burnouts..so the truck was heat soaked pretty good i would say. let me know what combo for a trans and VB you guys would suggest... $$ is a little bit of an issue... so nothing crazy.

but i also might look at compounds in the next couple years... so something that will hold that as well.

Thanks
Tim

my DTT guy will install a torque converter and valve body for you for $2300-$2500 if everything else internally looks good. He won't just do what you paid him to do, if he finds a problem he'll talk it over with you first. He's the best well known DTT builder/installer in Texas if not the entire southern US.

a Dave Goerend valve body and tq converter will run you $1100 for the converter and $475 for valve body plus core charges.

With these tranny mods you will want to still be careful when launching with boost since you wont have billet shafts.

My Juice is being upgraded to HOT at the moment. I'm also turbo shopping

You should be at least 1/2 a second quicker. I was running 14.6 in my 215hp 1999 CTD with only a comp box and full DTT trans.

Once you get a killer trans and do some 20psi 4x4 launches, and lock up the converter you should be low 14's.

These "600's" have been knowen to run 13's on just electronics and a tranny

well.. but you had a trans... thats the only thing holding me back from running well into the 13's i think. the truck wants to haul major ***, but just slips and the edge backsdown to almost nothing by the last 1/8mile. 80mph in the 1/8mile is pretty good from what i have seen from these trucks... especially when im leaving the line with a 3.73 rear end. it doesnt want to leave that hard without a trans.

also what i didnt tell you guys is that most of my runs in the later part of the day... i was only gaining 1mph from the 1/8mile to the 1/4mile. thats TERRIBLE...and i was still running a 15.013@79.15.

i really beleive that a trans would make this truck completly different than its acting. if i put it back on stock( 0 ) in the EDGE... it still slips a good amount, so its pretty much hurt allready.

just dont know how its that bad with only 25K mikes on the truck and i only had the EDGE box in there for the last 6K miles( and i dont really beat on her that badly).

i guess its just these trucks torque and the weak trans from the factory.??

yeah pretty weak. Mine was messed up at 30k....totally stock.

I've seen some nasty transmissions....i mean torn up pieces everywhere from stock trucks.

its luck of the draw IMO

A good heavy duty low stall TC and well built transmission will net .5-1 second lower 1/4 mile on the track, depending on how hard you are willing to launch. It will allow hard 4wd high boost launches that are impossible with stock tc/trans. I spent high dollar up front on the TC/Transmission so that I could go up the HP ladder when I could afford it. Still have more money in the TC/Trans/Flexplate than all other performance mods. About a year and a half, lot of hard 4wd launches, some towing and 33,000 miles later it is just fine. And it held together for two 12s runs couple of weeks ago. Do it right the first time. Decide how much you are going to throw at it in the end and don't fudge to start with. Just my .02.

yea... thats what i figured i would do. i know i will want a turbo upgrade soon, maybe a little spray or propane as well just to help out a bit. so the trans is the next thing.

anyone suggest a certain company/distributor that i should go to when i do a trans and convertor?! that would be a good help.
