Which way to install MBRP muffler for more noise?
I installed an MBRP muffler on my truck a couple days ago. It's louder than the Magnaflow I was running but not nearly as loud as the straight pipe. It's also not nearly as loud as some of the full MBRP systems I've heard on our trucks. Looking in the muffler, there are little louvers in a spiral pattern. I installed it with the smooth side of those louvers in the front thinking that the exhaust would flow more smoothly and be louder. Was this wrong? I really want the truck to be louder than it is now that I have been running straight pipe for a while. So, if I turn the muffler around will it be louder or quieter. I went to a website that said doing this would increase the resonance inside the cab but said nothing about it being louder outside.....
What say you guys????

Alright, after a half hour of searching I found my answer which is what I expected. Having the openings forward will be quieter. I can't believe I'm the only one who thinks this is a bit quiet. Every post I saw was from guys who thought it was too loud......

I agree, I just put a MBRP muffler on mine (took off the cat also) and don't really like the sound of it. I put the smooth part of the louvers to the front. My '01 with a different muffler (not sure of the brand, got it from DTT, it had what looked like screen in it rather than louvers) sounded MUCH better.
The MBRP is loud enough, but it sounds kinda crappy....more of a "tin can/typical six cylinder" sound rather than a rumble like my old truck had!

MBRP without Cat is noticeably louder
I orginally installed the MBRP and left the cat. When my SPS66 turbo came I left the cat off. It was a bit to loud, especially towing when I had some drone. They say the bigger turbo also increases the noise. Anyway, I put the cat back on and it's a good bit quieter. I believe I'm going to order a resonator and install it in place of the cat. I hear good reports about that combo if the missing cat is too loud for your tastes. I also hear that twins really quiet things down a bit - hmmmm - I wonder if I could convince the wife the twins are the only way to quiet it down.

I'll be patient and hope that it gets louder. It's really no big deal.

Ya Ya. I tried that and it was just too loud for me all the time. I did like it and it made me feel like more of a man especially with that 6" tip I just put on. Nothing says I can't go back to the SP.......except my wife........
