So, if a stock 2nd gen intake is better than a stock 3rd gen intake, I guess an aftermarket 2nd gen intake would be even better, right? Maybe even better than an aftermarket 3rd gen intake???

I think an aftermarket 2nd gen air horn is a waste of money. Wouldn't be any different than an aftermarket air horn (excluding Banks) for a 3rd gen.

Well, I wouldn't bother with one unless the price was too good to pass up. I just happened to see one on Craigslist for a 2nd gen and it made me wonder...
I'm not BOMBing my truck. Remember!!!!!
Thanks for the insight....

I still dont follow you, I've seen them both and I can say is the Banks is the largest intake I've seen(maybe to big) that still mounts to the heater grid, or maybe mine is different as it was the one that came w/ the technicooler kit IDK?

I bought an afe when they first came out...i think i payed 350 or 300?
Anyway it was an awesome upgrade....about two months ago i bought a 2nd gen intake for 30 bucks and put it in place of the bladerunner...felt the same....so i sold the bladerunner for 275 bucks.

Does the Banks have the mounting bolts going through the top of the air horn? If so the mounting hole flanges casted inside the horn is the restriction, just like the stock 3rd gen.

Nope, I think that's the misconception and what I hate about my banks. Yes the bolts go through the air stream, but the opening is a huge bubble and if you look into the intake you will see the two bolts in the middle of the airstream. No casting around the bolts furthest from the head. THe part I don't like is the bolts aren't stainless and they use rubber washers where the nuts are to seal the bolt opening. Does this make a clear picture at all???

I found me a 2nd gen intake with the bolts on Craigslist! $20 and I pick it up today at lunchtime. I guess I'll throw it in the box with my HE351 turbo that I still need to install...
It's pretty funny to me that almost all my upgrades are from other year stock trucks. Turbo and elbow from an 05, intake horn from an 01, muffler/tailpipe from a 6.7. If this truck ever goes in for warranty work the tech will be scratching his head trying to figure things out......

I got an offer of 65 plus shipping for a 2nd gen the other day. I'm debating on spending the extra just for cosmetic purposes. I can get a byrds for around 150 shipped
